This is a special form of an IFS driver. It doesn't implement an on-disk filesystem. Instead it relies on the kernel's network stack and provides most times a remote file system (i.e. SMB shares).

The CPHANTOM project is a 'C' language skeleton for a MS-DOS Int 2F file system redirector. The example is inspired by the Pascal language PHANTOM redirector example provided in the book Undocumented DOS by Andrew Schulman, Raymond J. Michels, Jim Kyle, Tim Paterson, David Maxey and Ralf Brown, published by Addison Wesely, 1990. CPHANTOM is provided as a Borland C++ 4.5 project. The PCA CPHANTOM redirector was designed to illustrate a few more functions than the original PHANTOM example.

If you use Microsoft Outlook (Workgroup installation) with an email account on a Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5 or later and your handheld is not enabled with BlackBerry Enterprise Software, you can use the BlackBerry Desktop Redirector to set up email on your handheld.

Many developers have tried this and encounter problems. For example, it would seem practical to use Winsock to transport your redirector's data. This file includes some articles from comp.os.ms-windows.programmer.vxd and Dan Norton's DDK-L, including some helpful Microsoft responses, which sheds some light on this problem. The October, 1995 DDK documentation doesn't give a clue.

Check the Status field in the BlackBerry Desktop Redirector. If there is a Server name preceding the status, then you are using BlackBerry Enterprise Server to forward your mail to the BlackBerry from Vodafone Wireless Handheld. If the Status field reads "Running", you are using BlackBerry Desktop Redirector. When using the BlackBerry Desktop Redirector for email redirection, attachments may be viewed on the handheld using third party applications.

Example An ASX file (Advanced Stream Redirector) is a special type of file which works closely with Windows media files. ASX file is a metafile - a file which contains data about another file. In this case it is a simple text file containing a reference to a real media file normally in WMA, WMV or ASF format. Save the above content in a text file with .asx extension and use this ASX file as the URL hyperlink for direct or embedded link inside your HTML page.

Normally, the redirector feature is used to rewrite requested URLs. Squid then transparently requests the new URL. However, in some situations, it may be desirable to return an HTTP "301" or "302" redirect message to the client. This is now possible with Squid version 1.1.19. Simply modify your redirector program to append either "301:" or "302:" before the new URL.
