this time, the authentication server is used only for providing off-campus access to online resources (databases, electronic journals, e-books) subscribed by the ACC libraries. Almost all online library resources are made accessible to off-campus users this way. There are a few online resources that have special restrictions imposed by the vendor limiting their use to a particular building or to a particular department. Off-campus users will not have access to these resources.

All requests for assistance should go to a reference desk at one of the libraries or by email at library@austincc.edu. They will diagnose and resolve most access problems or document and pass on problems that require in-depth assistance or configuration changes to the EZProxy administrator.

Remote or off-campus access is limited to those who are affiliated with the University. CNU students, staff and faculty may access the Library's resources off campus but first, users must have a barcode on the back of their CNU I.D. A barcode is available from the Library's circulation desk. (Phone number: 757-594-7133) Using this barcode number as the password and their last name as the login, any of databases listed on the Library's home page or Databases A to Z page are available for use.

Member university students may access Roper Center resources while off campus by logging into the proxy server or Virtual Private Network (VPN) typically available through your university library. When selecting a resource that requires ASU authentication you will be confronted with a screen that asks for your ASURITE ID and password. Upon entering valid information you should have access to your selected resource for the duration of your browser session. You only need to use the Proxy server if you are NOT in the MSU IP Domain. The Proxy server does not require that your browser be configured in any special way to use Library resources from outside the MSU IP Domain. The proxy server is set up to use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to encrypt your login, protecting it from hackers. Once you successfully log in, the proxy server connects you with the database you selected, which in most cases does not use SSL technology.

SAULCAT can be freely searched from off-campus, and many of the e-resources bought by the Library can be accessed with an ATHENS account. Many e-journals can only be accessed from off-campus with a SARA (St Andrews Remote Access) dial-up account, or if they are included in a database bought by the Library, which you can access with an ATHENS account.

You will use your Student Computer Account to access CentralPipeline. Go to http://pipeline.ccsu.edu and enter your Username and Password. Yes, most colleges and universities provide remote access to their databases. (you will need to know how to log into their site). Since our databases are designed for public library patrons, we recommend that you use the databases offered at your college or university for your coursework. Databases available at your college or university library are designed for an academic community, and will give you access to professional literature and scholarly journals (which we don’t have).

Yes, many library resources are available online as well. For example, the Electronic Databases can be found at http://lib.lbcc.edu/databases2.html . These databases may be accessed from off-campus with passwords which the Reference Librarian or your DL instructor can provide for you. Resources are available via computer and Internet access, such as electronic article reserves. Information about the TTUHSC library resources with web-based courses will be provided at orientation. Many assignments in the program will stimulate searching the web.
