When you are in your office you will be assigned a fixed IP address by DHCP, then when you move around campus you will be assigned a private IP address automatically. Private addresses will only work within the campus network, so if you want to access the rest of the internet you will need to use a proxy server.

Why does the keyboard lock up on my keyboard wedge scanner? The scanner beeps but nothing appears on-screen. Make sure you are connected properly. A common mistake is to plug one end of the 'Y' cable into the mouse port, instead of the keyboard port.
