The commuter assistants are a group of undergraduate students employed by the Office of Commuter Services and Educational Services for Students. These students develop academic programs; fun activities for commuter students, send out weekly e-mails, build a link for commuting students by informing them on campus issues; campus life, and maintain the Rock Bottom Lounge, where their office is located.

Commuters attend the full retreat, including all meals, but you are not provided with overnight accommodations. You will need to arrange for your own accommodations. A list of accommodations near Spirit Rock can be found on our website at www.spiritrock.org. The cost to attend as a commuter is on a sliding scale from $65-$45 per retreat night. Unless you have a teacher's permissions, you need to have completed a minimum of a one-week silent retreat as a resident before you can be a commuter.

Dr. Lindsey employs a competent staff who has acquired many years of experience as assistants in this office. Each chairside assistant has been trained to carry out his or her instructions exactly. At your appointment, Dr. Lindsey will assess your progress and instruct an assistant to do the routine mechanics for that visit unless they require Dr. Lindsey’s expertise alone. At every visit, Dr. Lindsey inspects the finished procedure and makes decisions concerning the next appointment.

Students who are research assistants ("on contract") get paid on the 15th and the last day of each month. If the dates fall on a weekend or holiday, checks come on the workday before. Students on academic-year stipends receive their first check on September 15 and their last check on May 31. See the secretary in the unit in which you work to pick up your check.

Since most GANT positions do not meet the specific criteria required for exemption, such as the $455 per week minimum, they are nonexempt and must keep records of hours worked. The Commuter Benefits Program is a qualified transportation benefit program under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) ? 132 which allows employees to pay for certain employment-related transportation expenses on a pre-tax basis.

Through payroll deduction, employees contribute to an account that saves 25% to 40% on the expense of parking near their place of employment, and travel to and from work. During the year, participants may access this account for transit and parking expenses. Payments from the account are tax-free to employees. Monthly expense limits for 2007 are $215 per month for parking and $110 per month for transit passes and commuter highway vehicles.

The Commuter Check program is a ???fringe benefit??? available to employees allowing them to save taxes on their qualified commuting expenses. Commuter Checks are vouchers accepted by transit operators for purchase of transit passes, tokens and tickets. Commuter Check???s ParkChek is a voucher accepted by parking operators to pay for commute-related parking expenses.

Commuter plans are only available if you live off campus or in one of the on campus apartment complexes (Antero, Blanca, JLK, El Diente, or Edith Gaylord). Unfortunately, we have eliminated the option to commute to the institute. We find that commuting creates an unacceptable risk for the safety of our students, creates disruption within the lab setting, forces students to miss valuable instruction time, and that the minimal discount we were able to offer for housing in the past ($100 per week) did not attract many students to the option.

The Commuter Club is a student organization funded by Undergraduate Student Groups (USG). The officers of the Commuter Club host a variety of events in the Rock Bottom Lounge, where not only commuters, but also residents are more than welcome to attend. These events include pizza parties, outdoor picnics, breakfasts & ice cream socials. The Commuter Club is open to commuters and residents to join, so that both groups can recognize that commuters know how to party, also!

The English Department of Health and Scottish Executive are currently considering the regulation of health care support workers. Should it be deemed appropriate to require all health care support workers to be registered with the HPC, support workers may also be required to demonstrate to the HPC that they meet appropriate CPD standards.

Physician assistants are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. Common services provided by a physician assistant include taking medical histories and performing physical examinations; ordering and interpreting lab tests; formulating a diagnosis; prescribing appropriate treatment; assisting in surgery; and counseling patients.

Historically, there has been no formal education available for orthodontic assistants, each of our staff members has had some form of college or after high school education. Some of our assistants have also received formal training and/or worked as a dental assistant or dental hygienist. They are continually trained by Dr. Goldreich and given responsibilities, as they learn their skills.

It is amazing to us the varied sources from which we obtain students. Many of our students are primary care givers returning to the work force, while others are looking for a change in career. Some students are recent high school graduates while others have completed graduate school! The majority of our students are female as it is primarily a female profession. It is a great way to "get your foot in the door" of orthodontics or dentistry.

Yes. We would prefer clients to bring along their own assistant, but should you not wish to do this, we will happily provide an assistant for you at the standard going rates. Naturally it is more comfortable and less stressful for the you to have your own personal assistant. For those who do not really need personal care, but are concerned about lifting heavy suitcases, or helping push a wheel-chair up a large hill etc, we will find assistance for you.
