History has shown us that Great White Shark Sightings at the Neptune Islands are seasonal. For this reason we don’t conduct any cage diving charters in April or May. We have found that sightings in these months are quite unreliable. The peak Shark season is from early June to late October. November to the end of February also see healthy numbers of sharks, and warmer water temperature.

Aurora seasons starts in mid-August and runs until late-April. The summer months are not dark enough to view the Aurora. During the aurora season, your chances of seeing the northern lights are excellent, as Yellowknife is perfectly located directly under the aurora oval, the area of which the aurora dances across the skies. Many people believe September and March to be the best times to view the aurora, but Yellowknife is treated to an incredible display almost every night of the season.

The Parklands are not publicly accessible yet, however they can be viewed from the adjoining roads. The best places to see the site are from the Great Western Highway, Doonside Rd, Rudders Lane and the existing sporting fields on the southern side of Eastern Rd. Filtered views are also possible from the top of The Rooty Hill.

In addition to the panoramic view of Heavens Gate, there is a fine view of Hells Canyon from Saw Pit Saddle. From Riggins, travel to this grassing parklike viewpoint is on Forest Road 241 and then onto Road 2060A. Saw Pit Saddle is accessible to vehicles with high clearance. It is not recommended for RVs or vehicles towing camping trailers.

There is really no one view point that is the best for the view of the canyon. West Rim Drive and the East Rim Drive offers excellent views of the canyon and river.

The fireworks can be viewed from the softball field located between Mountainside pool and the tennis courts on the east side of Upper Mountain Avenue or snow sledding hill on the west side. Both locations offer excellent views of the fireworks.

Your display should be set for high-color. 24-bit is best, 16 bit is ok if that's the best your machine can do for you. 256 color looks awful (we tested it!).
