Avatars are icons people choose to represent themselves. You have the option of having one, by going to your profile, and selecting and Avatar. GameSpy provides a collection of them to choose from. The boards are currently set to allow registered members to use custom icons and avatars after 750 posts. It seems like a high number, but when you visit a forum daily, and post 4-5 times. It adds up fast. Also, if you try to raise your post count by spamming the forums, you will be banned.
