That depends. If you are providing shelter from the rain, yes. However, in this area when we are experiencing high summer temperatures, the dog is not able to get relief from the sun by laying in an oven-like dog house. There must be shade that is provided at all hours of the day and has adequate ventilation.

Dogs at North Central can be reclaimed by owners, adopted or euthanized the second I walk out the door, and I have no way of knowing! At the bottom of the North Central page, I note when I last updated the site, but I cannot guarantee that any animal will still be there even a short time later. This is why you should call the shelter before you go, to confirm that the dog is still there.

There is a $100 adoption fee plus an $12 licensing fee when you adopt a dog from the shelter. The total fee, $112, is non-refundable. "Senior" dogs age 5 and older are only $50 plus an $12 licensing fee. They are transmitted through the bite of a mosquito. A mosquito becomes infected with micofilariae (heartworm larvae) when it takes a blood meal from an infected dog. Once they reach the heart they can cause heart failure, liver and kidney disease, or even death.

Periodontal disease can cause bad breath as well as lead to soreness and destruction of the gums and loose or missing teeth. Plaque builds up on the groove between teeth and gums, causing irritation, redness, and swelling. Eventually pockets form and deepen, allowing bacteria to damage the tissues that hold teeth in place. Bacteria from the teeth have a clear path to the animal's bloodstream and vital organs.

Give a Bordetella vaccination if the dog is going to be boarded in a boarding kennel during your vacation. Remember to have your pet wormed every time it gets vaccinationed, especially when it is a puppy.

Some pets have a weakened immune systems due to other conditions such as heart worm, cancer, or hypothyroidism, if your pet is around other pets that have mange, if they have been un-bathed for a long time, or live in harsh outdoor conditions, they can be more susceptible to mange mites. Demodectic mange can be brought on more in older dogs if they have had a mange problem in the past. Stress, sickness and weakened immune systems can "trigger" mange.

If you are ill with pandemic influenza, you may be isolated either at home or in the hospital. A port-a-pot is placed at the Skate Park during from October 15 to April 15. In the foreground of the picture, Antimi Shelter lies adjacent to the skate park's entrance. The shelter has electricity, water, and light available, as well as 10 picnic tables, one double barbecue grill, and a pay phone.
