The Whitney collects and exhibits American art from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The Museum's collections start at 1900 and continue to the present. The fifth- floor galleries contain art from the permanent collection, 1900 to 1949; the second floor exhibits art from l950 to the present day. Other floors are devoted to changing exhibitions.

The original Museum, established in 1931, was located at 10 West 8th Street, New York. In 1954, the Museum relocated to 22 West 54th Street. The present location of the Whitney, 945 Madison Avenue, was designed by architect Marcel Breuer and completed in 1966.

Our Museum Art is comprised of images from classical masters, famous and well know painters, photographers, and illustrators. For example, you'll find Van Gogh, Ansel Adams, Renoir etc. We have collected this art through partnerships with leading Fine Art publishers from around the world. This art is sent to us as pre-printed lithograph or serigraph fine art poster prints.

The Museum exhibits traditional and contemporary Asian and Asian American art. The Asia Society’s Mr. and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller 3 rd Collection includes about 280 objects of exceptional quality from the traditional artistic cultures of Far, South, and Southeast Asia. A selection of objects from this collection is always on view. The two floors of galleries alternate between traditional and contemporary exhibitions.

The Eric Carle Museum is unique in that it was conceived and built as a full-scale museum. It contains galleries devoted to the presentation of original art; ample spaces for the collection, preservation, and safe storage of the works; and other key areas dedicated to fulfilling the Museum's educational mission (Art Studio, Reading Library, and Auditorium) and to rounding out the visitor's experience (Caf? and Book Shop).

The Museum is a nonprofit corporation, and the governing body of the corporation holds the works of art in trust.

Though the Museum does offer an outstanding range of art, there's also science, civilizations, a Planetarium and a 25-acre arboretum. Plus, an enticing menu of educational programs for families, adults and children and a yearly cultural festival. Galleries feature an eclectic variety from art, armor, and artifacts of world civilizations, to natural history and the cultures of Native Americans and Pennsylvania Germans.

Archeulian flints from Deir El Bahri in Egypt, dating to the Lower Paleolithic period (ca. 300,000–75,000 B.C.), are the oldest objects in the Museum's collection. The Museum is constantly rotating its work on display, so ask for the location of these flints at the Information Desk in the Great Hall. The art museum was named by a donor in honor of Juliet Clark Alexander, Lyell and Buckner Clay?s half sister. Alexander worked for a short time at the Charleston Daily Mail newspaper, but spent most of her adult life in France raising Arabian horses. She passed away in 1985.

Docent-guided tours are available for students 5th grade and older with reservations needed four to six weeks in advance. The museum requires a minimum of one adult chaperone for every ten students. There is no limit placed on the size of groups having unguided tours and even though no reservation is required it is recommended.

The 5,000-square-foot adobe Ranch Headquarters house, built in 1967 by John S. Sullivan, features displays pertaining to the natural and human history of the Park. These include a timeline delineating the history of the Ranch, displays of prehistoric artifacts discovered in Colossal Cave, and a comprehensive caving museum.

A - I don't have a favorite. I tend to draw somewhat-realistically, and pay attention to anatomy, but sometimes I'll do really graphic, design-y stuff, or do some pyrography (woodburning), or just let my imagination loose. I LOVE to incorporate symbols, special colors, or elements from various other cultures (both ancient and modern) in my art, too.
