Junk email exists because the costs for senders to send email messages is essentially zero, whether they send one message or a million! As long as even a minute fraction of recipients respond to such messages, they are a viable marketing mechanism. The downside of course is that the end-user is bombarded with junk and has to spend a significant amount of time weeding out real mail from junk.

It is extremely difficult to stop junk email or prevent spam. However, there are programs available that allow you to filter your email so that most unwanted email can be discarded before it reaches your inbox. We recommend you install an email filter on your computer. There are several available and some are even free. We cannot recommend any specific software, but a search engine may be able to give you some good suggestions by typing in "email filter" or "email filters".
