After the 1990 show, the show producers realized what a dynamic impact the fireworks show had made. The sound particularly rolled across the landscape like thunder. Thus, the show demanded a title that adequately reflected its intensity.

In Downtown Louisville, there are more than 52,000 public parking, off-street spaces within a 10-block walk to the River. Listed below are some of those sites. Click here for more information on garage and lot locations or contact the Parking Authority of River City (PARC) at (502) 587-PARK.

No bikes, skateboards or skates are allowed within the event venue. You will be asked to walk them in for pedestrian safety. But, there is FREE valet bicycle parking. If you ride your bicycle to Thunder Over Louisville, you can park it at the "Free Valet Bicycle Parking" located on the northeast corner of Witherspoon Street and Preston Street, north of Slugger Field. The facility will open at 12:00 P.M. and close at 11 P.M. on Saturday, April 21, 2007.

In 2001, the Derby Festival conducted an economic impact study that determined Thunder Over Louisville generated more than $31 million for the local economy. The total economic impact for the entire 70 events of the Derby Festival is estimated at $93 million for both Greater Louisville and Southern Indiana.

In just 17 years, what started as a better than average fireworks display has become the pinnacle of pyrotechnics. Thunder is the nation's largest annual fireworks event. It is also one of the top five air shows in the country. Fireworks have been a part of celebrating the Kentucky Derby Festival since the 1960's. Various displays occurred on different nights of the week and locations such as Oxmoor Center in East Jefferson County, including sites along the Ohio River.

For safety reasons the following are not permitted in the event area, which goes south from the Ohio River to Main Street between Clay Street and 10th No cans or bottles are allowed at the event site. Plastic bottles and food are permitted. There is also plenty of food and soft drink stands to take care of any needs you may have. Beer is available at the Chow Wagon at Waterfront Park and the Belvedere Beer Garden. No bikes, skateboards or skates are allowed in the event venue.

NO WAKE ZONE. A No Wake Zone is in effect from Ohio River Mile 604.3 (Portland Canal) through Mile 598.0 (Six Mile Island). This is also the area that is regulated and monitored by the Coast Guard and other public safety officials. There is a PICKET LINE at the Big Four Bridge. No public or commercial traffic beyond this line during the show. Strong river currents: High water associated with melting snow and spring rains can significantly increase river current speeds.

The Weather for Thunder has varied widely. Highs for the day have ranged from mid-40's to mid-80's. Generally it gets cooler at night, so bring along a sweatshirt or jacket. Tune to FOX41 WDRB TV for the official Thunder forecast.

All of Waterfront Park is open & offers free public viewing for Thunder. The show is so massive that it can be seen almost anywhere. Waterfront Park will have continuous action and interactive attractions from 11 AM until the firework's finale at 10 PM. Along River Road is always a popular place. The entertainment garden of the "Chow Wagon" at Waterfront Park offers live bands for a 2007 Pegasus Pin admission. Jeffersonville, Indiana has changed over the last several of years.

We plan on having the major Annual Lebowski Fest every year in Louisville. We will travel two or three times a year. Lebowski Fest West which has been in Vegas and LA will be an annual tradition on the West Coast and we like New York as well. Check out all the Fests - past and present here.

Probably not. While you are in Ghana , food safety should be the major factor in your decision to abstain. You can hardly resist the tempting novelty of street vendors and their food variety. Our suggestion is to avoid eating on the streets until you get familiar with the general situation. The food will likely taste quite different than anything you have had before. Food safety problems can range from chemicals and contaminants, to bacteria as well as some other diseases.

Simple. First determine which field you would like to exhibit in, (map available here), and contact the Promoter who owns the field. Some promoters permit only experienced and well-established dealers. Others are more flexible. Certain fields are better than others for exhibiting certain items, i.e. i.e. fine furniture, glass or americana.

When your kids are ready for something besides angels-on-the-conga-drums, you explain that a flash of lightning heats the air around it. The hot air crashes into the cold air and the soul-stirring bang-rumble of thunder is born. You see the lightning before you hear the thunder because the speed of light is way faster than the speed of sound. (If you can remember the exact speed of either of these, your brain cells are holding up a lot better than mine.

Food concessions are available on a first-come, first-serve basis with preference given first to previous concessions. An application for a concession stand is located under the “Printable Forms” section of this website. The IDCC approves all menus well in advance of the event. The IDCC maintains all rights to pop, beer, bottled water and any other beverage sales.

If you are interested in becoming a food vendor, please complete the online application, print and mail for consideration or you can download it, print it, fill it out and mail it. There is only room for about 12 food vendors, so it is best to apply early. Past favourable participants are considered first, then any available spaces are considered next. You must complete the BFM membership application materials as well as have approval from the Whatcom County Health Department for selling at the Farmers Market. Is important to note that Whatcom County has very strict requirements for selling at Markets and just because someone is approved to sell in Skagit County, it does not mean that they are eligible to sell in Whatcom County.

This year the Concerts in the Park will not be accepting applications since there will be a company coming in to operate the concession stands for the entire park.

Submit a letter via email or regular mail with the complete description of your set-up. Include the size, dimensions, and power requirements. Include your entire menu (everything you will sell) and include a picture of your food booth. Only a limited number of food vendors are accepted due to space restraints. We will contact you if we have an opening for your food booth.

Thunder is caused by lightning. The bright light of the lightning flash caused by the return stroke mentioned above represents a great deal of energy. This energy heats the air in the channel to above 50,000 degrees F in only a few millionths of a second! The air that is now heated to such a high temperature had no time to expand, so it is now at a very high pressure.

Visit the Louisville Metro Police Department website at www.louisvilleky.gov/metropolice for all Thunder traffic information. Arrive as early as practical for the best space. Food service starts at 3p.m. at all sites and the airshow begins at 3 PM Park as far away from the event area as you can comfortably walk. This will make exiting traffic easier.
