We have many questions from clients asking if the Dial Dictate will work with this type of PBX, that type of modem or some other particular brand of hardware. We are not always able to give a definitive answer and our reply is often "give it a test run". For modems and other telephony hardware, see www.nch.com.au/ivm/modems.html. For PBXs, the PBX should be able to have regular analog phone extensions. Refer this question to the supplier of your PBX.

The DialDictate comes with a call simulator which greatly simplifies the set-up process. The system comes installed as-is with default voice prompts and key assignments. The main set-up involves:

Dial Dictate and VRS cannot use the same phone line at the same time. If your require call recording of a call via Dial Dictate you will need to setup a parallel or tap line and connect it to a separate voice modem or port in your telephony card. You can then have VRS monitor that line. Remember that Dial Dictate cannot be answering the tap line but can handle the original line.

Dial Dictate is a sophisticated software product that allows users to dictate over the phone and then send the audio file to a typist automatically via email, FTP or to a LAN folder. It is a program that is installed on a Windows PC computer that enables the user to record audio, edit and confirm the recording all through a touch tone phone. Yes, but they cannot share a modem or telephony card on the same phone line(s). You need to either configure Dial Dictate and TRx to record separate phone lines, or use a call recording adapter on the phone line and have TRx record via the sound card on the computer. Your best option is to have a second line installed for connecting to the Internet and install Dial Dictate on the first.

Dial the phone number you want to assign to this Abbreviated Dial code followed by the # sign, or press * to cancel. The phone number you entered for this Abbreviated Dial number is repeated back. NOTE: Be sure to enter all the numbers normally required to dial the call. This includes the area code for long distance calls and may include the area code for local calls in some areas.

You must have a Windows PC computer (Windows 95 or later) and a voice modem with TAPI compliant wave drivers. Dial Dictate can also be used with professional telephony cards if they are TAPI compliant. Is my modem a voice modem? If your present modem is a voice modem then you will be told so in the description of the modem. Refer to the manual of your modem. Often the wave drivers have not been installed.

For multiline or other professional applications we recommend CAHTA Professional Telephony Boards on Windows 2000 / XP / Vista because of their higher quality audio, robustness and multiline support. No not for standard telephony, this is a purely digital data line. You would need a separate phone line or you would need to use SIP based Internet Telephony.

ADSL line can carry data and telephony at the same time. You cannot use the ADSL modem with Dial Dictate to receive or make calls as these modems provide network connectivity (i.e. data only) and cannot be used for normal phone calls. You can install a separate TAPI compliant Voice modem/telephony board and connect to your phone line (using a splitter and an ADSL filter). You can use Dial Dictate without the modem/board but you would need to use SIP based Internet Telephony.

Dial Dictate v 3.01 released in July 2005 now has VoIP (Voice over IP) capability. Please refer to the VoIP tab in Dial Dictate Settings and the relevant sections of the Dial Dictate Help notes.

Dial Dictate is designed to support both VoIP and normal phone lines. Each is configured under its own tab in Settings.

PBX's often filter out DTMF tones but this is highly dependant on the PBX. Some work just fine and others can result in poor detection results. In some cases the DTMF tones are completely filtered. Because DialDictate's menu actions are dependent upon accurate DTMF tone detection, it is essential that the PBX passes DTMF tones on without changing them.
