Shiloh Shepherds originated from AKC German Shepherds, with the addition of a malamute/white shepherd outcross in the early 90's. However, the Shiloh is still a breed in development, and most registries are trying to add depth to the gene pool by bringing in outcrosses.

The Anatolian Shepherd originated from the region of Turkey, and is a large working dog used primarily as a livestock guardian. This ancient breed was bred to be a hardy survivor in the harsh climate and terrain of Turkey, and has a half-long or a shorter coat that is dense, double, and ideal for most climates.

This is not the breed for everyone, and should not become 'the breed of the month', as has happened to some breeds. This breed is, first and foremost, a guarding dog, with strong independence and dominance drives, and it requires a responsible approach to successful management. Time and effort is required to keep Anatolians socialized and well-behaved. They are very strong and can be very stubborn at times.

No. The gene for the plush coat is present in GSD's. However it is considered a fault and most breeders do not select for the trait. The plush coat is the most common variety of Shiloh Shepherd, however there is also a smooth coated variety.

Shiloh Shepherds are eager to please and learn very quickly with repetition, consistency, and positive reinforcement. As with any large dog, socialization and basic obedience training is essential to having your own canine good citizen. There are Shilohs who go on to compete in obedience, and some have gone to be Service Dogs as well as work in Search and Rescue.

The full adult size of your GSD will depend in large part on the genetic background of its parents. Adult males should range between 24-26" at the shoulder blade, females from 22-24". Males within the standard may weigh anywhere from 65-90 lbs. depending on their bloodlines. Females may weigh anywhere from 50-75 lbs. Although your pup will reach close to adult height by 10-18 months, he will continue to fill out until up to 3 years old.

Shepherd moons are small moons that appear to be responsible for defining the boundaries of some -- and maybe most -- of Saturn's rings. Their gravitational fields keep the ring particles from straying, much like a shepherd keeps sheep from wandering away from the flock. One startling example is the F-ring, which is tended by two tiny moons, Prometheus and Pandora. They seem to be responsible not only for maintaining the slender ring, but for its apparent braids and kinks.

Most lines of GSD's will live to between 10-13 years of age. 11-12 years is probably a very reasonable expectation. A GSD becomes "middle-aged" between 5-7 years old, and is generally considered "geriatric" at about 10. Their food intake and exercise and nutrition needs may change over this period of time. They may begin to develop stiffness in their joints (much like people do as they get older).

Shilohs and GSD's share high intelligence, problem solving ability, and loyalty to their owners. Physically, Shilohs are larger than GSD's, and lack the sloping topline and extreme angulation seen in many American GSD's. Behaviorally, Shilohs tend to have lower prey and play drives than GSD's. Of course this is a generalization, as some line have more drive than others.

Shiloh Shepherds can make wonderful family companions. They do well with children and other small pets but need supervision until they are grown. Shilohs grow very quickly and can outweigh small children well before they reach 6 months old.

Look, some people don't like German Shepherds for whatever reason - some are afraid of them because of their size, because how they're portrayed in the media, because how much they shed, because they know them as police dogs, etc. etc. Some people just don't like dogs. And there's very little that you can do to change that. You can try to educate them, but some people are not interested in learning new things, and just refuse to like dogs no matter what.

Although some puppies' ears stand as early as 8-10 weeks, don't be concerned if your pup's ears don't stand until 6-7 months (especially pups with large ears) after teething. Some pups ears never stand. This is known as a "soft ear". Sometimes taping is successful. "Soft ears" are a genetic trait, and dogs with soft ears should not be bred even if taping is successful. It is a disqualification in showing. Some GSD's ears stand but wiggle at the tips when the dogs run.

YES! We take her everywhere with us. She travels well in the pick up and is comfortable in the pop-up. One of the factors we use in selecting our camping destinations is if they allow pets. Many campgrounds do not accept pets of any kind, some accept pets up to a certain size while others have no limitations at all. Common courtesy demands that you make sure your pet does nothing to disturb other campers. Barking, running wild or bothering others in any way is not acceptable.

ASCA does not promote the breeding of miniature Australian Shepherds nor does it have specific conformation show catagories for them. The ASCA breed standard has no disqualification for size so therefore you may find some dogs that are called "miniatures" are actually ASCA registered and/or out of ASCA registered stock. These smaller Aussies, if ASCA registered, may compete in all ASCA programs, though because of their size may not be able to compete successfully in conformation shows.

Complete withdrawal from the University is processed through the Office of the Registrar. The procedures on the Withdrawal form must be followed. Unauthorized withdrawals from school are reported as failures. A sample of the Withdrawal form can be found in Section VII (Beige pages) of this Handbook. There is no refund for partial withdrawal after the Add/Drop period. There may be a refund for complete withdrawal from the University depending on date of withdrawal.
