Marked-up text is usually displayed in constant-width fonts. Line length calculations are based on this. In order to figure out line-wrap positions with Chinese data, you either have to allow indent + ( linelength - indent )/2 characters per line. This works OK if the data is all Chinese. If the data is mixed Chinese and ASCII (as it often is in marked-up text) then you should increment the linelength counter by 2 when you get a Chinese character.

This is known as the fonting scheme. The "size" of the font of type is specified by the number of upper and lower case 'a' sorts. For example, a 12 pt font of a good book face might be "24A 47a".

MySQL supports the two common variants of the GB (Guojia Biaozhun, or National Standard) character sets which are official in the People's Republic of China: gb2312 and gbk. Sometimes people try to insert gbk characters into gb2312, and it works most of the time because gbk is a superset of gb2312 - but eventually they try to insert a rarer Chinese character and it doesn't work. MySQL supports the Big5 character set which is common in Hong Kong and Taiwan (Republic of China). This problem occurred with Wenlin 2.0 on some versions of MacOS (due to undocumented changes made by Apple). It was fixed starting with Wenlin 2.1. On the View menu, click Sort fonts by. You can sort displayed fonts by file (default option), name, directory, family, size, date, copyright, number of kerning pairs and width. If You open a new folder (by clicking ), all fonts will be sorted by file name, because thats the fastest way to preview fonts. Darn near! The width of the belt is actually determined by the width of the hole in the buckle that the strap goes through. The belt strap is less than 1/16th of an inch narrower so it will fit through the buckle.

FontGen can create both fixed with and variable width fonts. The result depends on the characteristics of the selected font for the conversion process. If the selected font is a fixed-width font, like Arial New, the created font will have width of all glpyhs the same.

Wide-character names would provide an illusion of portability where portability does not in fact exist. Behavior would be completely different on operating systems (Windows, for example) that support wide-character names, than on systems which don't (POSIX). Providing functionality that appears to provide portability but in fact delivers only implementation-defined behavior is highly undesirable.

This might be due to the printer is printing with non-standard built-in fonts. There are a few possible solutions you can try. You can check the printer-resident fonts by the “PCL Font List” and the font indication of the driver and then try to use the font-downloaded from the driver. The next possible solution you can try is to print your document as graphic files.

You will need Asian Font Packs in order to display Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files that contain text in Japanese.

This is possible provided the required character sets can be recognised by the browsers and operating systems with the appropriate fonts. The website coding can then be adjusted to instruct the browser to default to the correct character set.

The best answer is not to have "all of these fonts". One of the greatest mistakes a beginning DTPer makes is to use 20 different fonts on one small publication. The best thing to do is keep to a smaller number of fonts that serve your needs best. Plus, PageMaker's performance decreases dramatically with respect to the number of fonts installed in your system. Most publications look best when you use only two or so typefaces. Simpler is usually better when it comes to typefaces.

We use web fonts for body text and for menus, because they are easier to read, can be updated in the CMS, and can be read by search engines. Traditionally web designers have used Arial and Verdana for body text. However there are much wider choices now, particularly if your target market uses Windows XP.
