To use TVGuardian with multiple devices without having to disconnect one to use the other, you will need to purchase an Audio/Video Switch Box. The allow you to switch between multiple sources (DVD Player, VCR, etc.) by pushing a button. An Audio/Video Switch Box can be found at Radio Shack and other electronics stores. TVGuardian works with virtually all TV shows, DVDs (see DVD info below) and videos, including videos you have recorded of qualified TV shows or movies (not home movies).

The Swann Black Knight Camera receiver comes with an AV cable which plugs into the Video and Audio connectors on your TV or VCR. These plugs are commonly referred to as RCA plugs and are similar to the connectors used by game consoles and DVD players. If you plug your Swann Black Knight Camera's receiver into your VCR so that you can record the footage, you will need to select the AV channel on your VCR and then the channel on your TV that you normally use to watch video movies from your VCR.

Since the video images are stored digitally, the image quality will not degrade overtime, as would a VHS tape when recorded over multiple times. The time-saving search capabilities of a DVR will enable the user to locate the desired video clips via user defined parameters (camera, time, date, etc.

There is no need for the video cassette recorder unless you wish to store video on cassette for your own reasons. You can record on the VCR as well as the DVR at the same time.

There are several differences between a DVR and VCR: DVRs store television content in a compressed digital format onto a hard disk drive (like a computer). VCRs use VHS or Beta tapes to store recorded information in analog format. Because DVRs store information onto a hard disk drive in a compressed format, the storage limitations of tape are avoided. For example, videotapes can only capture approximately six hours of programming, while DVRs can store up to 50 hours.

Long answer: The minimum requirement for reproducing audio and video on DVD is an MPEG video stream and a PCM audio track. (Other streams such as Dolby Digital audio, MPEG audio, and subpicture are not necessary for the simplest case.) Basic DVD control codes are also needed. It's generally not a good idea to route the video from your DVD player through your VCR. Most movies use Macrovision protection, which will cause problems such as a repeated darkening and lightening of the picture. See 1.11 and the Video RF section of 3.2 and for more info.

there is a single rca output jack on the back of the pxl camera, near the handle. this jack accepts a standard rca video cable. Unfortunately, because of the garage-tech wizardry going on inside the pxl, you can't just connect that cable directly to your TV. you'll need a locate a converter box that translates the pxl signal (combined audio and video over an rca cable) into a standard Coaxial 75 Ohm signal (like your cable tv input).
