The Inca Trail FAQThere are a number of good guidebooks available which cover Peru and the Inca Trail. I strongly recommend that you buy one and read the relevant sections carefully when planning your trip. If something I've said here conflicts with anything in the guidebook, believe the guidebook. Among the ones I've seen, those from Lonely Planet and Rough Guides appear to be generally good. The South America Handbook from Trade & Travel Handbooks also has a good reputation.
