You are able to go through the Basic Training Manual at a family level, but in order to progress further you must be part of an official ALERT Cadet Squad. A Squad does not need to be composed of all ATI families; only the leader needs to be an ATI father. If there are no ATI families in your area, the father you wish to be your Squad leader must sign a Statement of Faith and agree to uphold ALERT Cadet leadership requirements.

Shepherd’s Staff is designed to accommodate blended families. It is easy to keep track of separate last names and alternate addresses and phone numbers.

No. Although we travel to some incredible places, our programs are about much more than just sightseeing. Broadreach programs are hands-on educational adventures. Many do! You can really build on your Broadreach experience year after year. Many participants start by getting SCUBA certified on our Underwater Discoveries program, then develop their skills on our other dive programs in the Red Sea, Australia, the Bahamas, Fiji, Baja and Honduras. The benzodiazepines used most often are: Alprazolam (Xanax); Chlordiazepoxide (Librium, Librax, Libritabs); Clonazepam (Klonopin); Diazepam (Valium, Valrelease); Estazolam (Prosom); Flurazepam (Dalmane); Lorazepam (Ativan); Oxazepam (Serax); Quazepam (Doral); Temazepam (Restoril); Triazolam (Halcion).

Alond the trail, almost everyone acquires a “trail name.” These names can come from a particular incident invloving the person, appearance, idiosycracy, or whatever. The best ones are ones that happen somewhat spontaneously. A good trail name is not carried over from the real world; a good trail name will find the hiker, much like the Native American finds his spirit guide.

Other names for NPS include: Iliac Horn Syndrome, Hereditary Onycho Osteo Dysplasia (HOOD), Fongs Disease, and Turner Kieser Syndrome.

The most common antidepressants used for PHN are called tricyclic antidepressants. This category of antidepressants include the drugs amitriptyline (Elavil), nortriptyline (Pamelor), desipramine (Norpramin), and doxepin. A recent study showed that nortriptyline is as effective as amitriptyline and tends to have fewer side effects. All drugs have some side effects. The most common side effects of the tricyclic antidepressants used for PHN are dry mouth, constipation, and dizziness.

There are many different types of anticonvulsant medication, all of which are thought to have different actions in the body. The anticonvulsant that is currently most often prescribed for PHN is gabapentin (Neurontin). Other antiseizure medications that have been used in the past for PHN include phenytoin (Dilantin) and carbamazepine (Tegretol).

My characters always get named accidentally. Their names just seem to stick on them, no matter how ridiculous they may seem. Gabriel is named after Gabriel Knight one of the (late) great characters of computer gaming. I highly recommend the first two GK games, if you can find them. Raven is named after a horse I rode during my 15 years of riding, but also after the trippy, schlocky poem The Raven, by Edgar Allen Poe. Poe is named after the poet Edgar Allen Poe, naturally.

The GPS Stash Hunt, Global Positioning Stash hunt is interchangable. Geocaching has become the standard for the game, however. The word Geocaching broken out is GEO for geography, and CACHING for the process of hiding a cache. A cache in computer terms is information usually stored in memory to make it faster to retrieve, but the term is also used in hiking/camping as a hiding place for concealing and preserving provisions. It is deceptively easy.

We do not have funding and resources to improve/enhance the map server. There are some programming problems with font rotation and scaling which need to be solved. If you have any experience in this area, please send me some e-mail.

From the first day faces become friends, expectations become experiences and unknowns become adventures. Whatever Broadreach program you choose, you should expect to be an integral part of the group, acquire skills and make lasting friends. You'll explore amazing ecosystems and unique cultures, have time to enjoy a good book or to watch the sunset, get up early, learn through hands-on experience and have a blast.

For many reasons, Broadreach has a strict no-tolerance policy against cigarette smoking on all of our programs. This is something you'll need to consider if you are a smoker, as no exceptions are made. [Back to Top]

Safety on the water is something we take very seriously at Broadreach. As a rule, Broadreachers wear a personal flotation device (PFD) when under sail or on a powerboat. Each yacht has its own powerboat in the unlikely event of an emergency that would require a quick transfer to land, in addition to VHF radios, cell and/or satellite phones, and a computer for emergency communications.

No way! We keep our program size small with just 10-14 participants, making Broadreach very different than camp. This is an experiential adventure! Unlike traditionally structured camps where every activity is scheduled into time slots, Broadreach programs are flexible and involve you in all aspects of the experience. Unlike a traditional "camper", you are asked to take responsibility and few things are done for you.

Subject Areas' are based on areas of studies that are generally accepted at a systemwide level by all the UC registrars offices. Majors sometimes have campus specific names, and since EAP is a UC systemwide program naming conventions have to work across all campuses.
