You and about 40,000 other people would trade anything for a tandem ride. Unfortunately, we can't offer it. We've done a few tandems in the past but they are pretty spontaneous and random, and there's no way to plan to get one.

No, you can start right away in the AFF or static-line program which will begin with an initial 6 hours of ground school preparation before you actually jump. Please plan on spending the entire day to complete your first AFF or static-line jump.

It's skydiving with your instructor. Your 5,000 (tensile lb.) harness will be directly connected to the parachute system and the Jump Master with 10,000-pound bolts. From exit until landing, the TM is there to "walk you and talk you" through Your first jump. He'll tell you what to do and when to do it, or if you want, he'll do everything for you. Your instructor is your personal One-on-one coach.

Nowhere is based upon the same key principles as Burning Man, but they are separate entities and have different atmospheres.

On a tandem jump you can experience the excitement of freefall without a lengthy and expensive training course. The jump is performed with an experienced instructor, called a tandem master. A special harness connects you to the tandem master throughout the jump. A third jumper will videotape the jump, so you can relive the jump with your friends as many times as you want. Before you jump, you will go through an instruction period.

Plan at least a half of a day to do your tandem jump. If you have a morning appointment, plan to be at the drop zone until late afternoon. If you have an afternoon appointment, plan to be at the drop zone until sunset. We try to hold to the appointment times but many factors come into play including the weather. We often get delayed and behind schedule due to weather concerns. We also need time for paperwork and training plus the tandem instructors need to pack between each jump.

Whoa Betty! The power grid in Center Camp is for the civic entities like the Rangers, Playa Info, the Artery and BMIR (our radio station). You will need to use your on-board generator. Out of consideration of your neighbors, we recommend using your generator sparingly.

Burning Man is a yearly outdoor arts festival that takes place in the Nevada Desert. It's hard to say exactly what Burning Man's about - it's about the creation of a cohesive, yet temporary community. It's about participation. It's about respect for the earth. If the weather is questionable, you can call the DZ prior to leaving your home. We are not meteorologists so we can only give you our best "guess" based on information provided to us by flight service. Don't "assume" that the weather is bad at the drop zone just because it may be raining at your house. If you do get weathered out, we will reschedule at your convenience.

It is recommended that you do a tandem jump your first time. However, you may do an Accelerated Freefall jump course and jump solo your first time.

The office staff does NOT schedule appointments for the professors. You will need to contact the professor in order to make an appointment. However, a list of the office hours each professor keeps in the current term are available here.

Burning Man takes place on public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Assateague Island National Seashore is federally controlled land managed by the National Park Service. Park Rangers are present on the island. Also, Assateague Beach Burns are much smaller than Burning Man; the largest beach burn we've ever had was about 150 people.

You don't have to be in a camp in Burning Man or Nowhere. For the past two years Nowhere has been small enough that the atmosphere feels like one big camp. However, if you want to set up a camp, go for it.
