Yes, Flagstaff Academy has programs in place to meet the needs of all learners, including our gifted students. Each classroom has been equipped with materials and curriculum to challenge the gifted learner. Gifted and talented students are recognized by Flagstaff Academy as “exceptional” children who require special programming to reach their full potential (C.R.S. 22-20-101 et seq.).

The Gifted and Talented Education is open to all Year Seven students across educational sectors in Western Australian schools and information/application booklets are sent to all schools during Term One.

A member of the department is a special needs co-ordinator and is able to meet with students to discuss requirements and offer advice. For example students with dyslexia may be advised how to be assessed, where to find technological support, and what sorts of extra support is available. In addition there are workshops within the college on essay preparation and some tutorials are offered for students whose first language is not English.

While school children with TS as a group have the same IQ range as the population at large, many have special educational needs. Data show that many may have some kind of learning problem. That condition, combined with attention deficits and the difficulty coping with frequent tics, often call for special educational assistance.

ABA coaches are teachers who have advanced technical skills and knowledge in the application of ABA/VB principles. Each coach will be assigned to support a group of preschool and elementary autism classes within a geographic area. The ABA coaches will visit classes on a regular basis to assist teachers in designing and delivering ABA/VB services to students. The coaches will also be available to provide training to staff, as needed.

Students must be tested to qualify for the gifted and talented classes. For 6th grade students who are in Granite District schools, testing will be done in the student's elementary school for 7th grade. Yes! We are GT certified and specialize in differentiation, curriculum compacting, curriculum acceleration and other modifications for GT. Beestar GT programs are designed for kids who want more challenge beyond the required basic skills. Following the school teaching system, GT programs go slightly ahead of the regular curricula. They intend to provide more mind-stretching problems to elevate students' thinking and problem solving ability. Unlike the regular programs, many GT problems require multiple steps to solve. Some of them demand generic critical thinking and spatial imagination skills.

Homeschooling is also growing quickly as the educational practice of choice for parents of children who are particularly gifted or talented. With homeschooling, a student’s education can be customized so that he or she can excel at whatever pace is appropriate.
