Well to begin, I develop to meet XHTML Transitional, CSS2, and WAI standards. The reason for this is that not everyone has perfect eye sight, or even at all, I figure if I have the knowledge then why not make it accessible for them as well. When you (or whoever scanned your photo) saved your image file to floppy disk or your hard drive, the file was not saved with a high enough resolution (dots per square inch) to save it from distorting when being scaled down to fit our site. When saving any image files, after scanning or when extracting them from your digital camera, make sure you save them as a JPG file and with the highest quality. Then, when we scale your photos down to size, they will look perfect.

The pictures look better than much of what you see on the Web because they were transferred from the original slides onto PhotoCD rather than scanned from prints. Everything I know about photography is somewhere in photo.net. They would look a lot better if I had ever had enough time to edit each one individually in PhotoShop; what you see on-line now was batch-converted automatically.)

While we realize that screen resolution is a personal preference and depends on the size and capability of your monitor/display. Phones have different screens and resolutions. Also, the new MEdia Net is being rolled out nationwide in late November through early December. During this rollout, some phones might show the old MEdia Net while others show the new MEdia Net.

This means that in order to make the web site appear correctly, developers have to work around the errors, making their code invalid.

I have no clue. All I know is a visitor emailed me to say that the site looked fine in Firefox, and that Firefox uses the same engine as Netscape. The problem is your AOLful browser, and the fix is to ditch the obsolete thing. AOL provides its users with an archaic browser that's more or less hobbled in comparison to those used in the outside world. It's sad but true: no one going at it with a standard AOL browser has any idea what the World Wide Web is really like. (Now you know why the cognoscenti characterize AOL as "Almost On Line".) Now that AOL owns Netscape, you'd think they'd give their customers a decent browser.

All UVic Web sites contain over 100,000 pages, maintained by several hundred people in over a hundred departments and units. The top level of UVic.ca consists of the main pages that help visitors find their way around the many UVic Web sites. At this point the new look will apply mainly to those pages.
