Can I zoom while the shutter is pressed?
Digital Photography FAQThis is a neat trick that can give some strange motion-blur like effects. Unfortunately, it's not possible on most digital cameras. Obviously, you can do if your camera has a manual zoom ring. If you know of a cameras with an unexpected ability to do this, please let me know and I'll mention it here.

PLAZAAfter you zoom is adjusted in the TELE direction, the zoom lens moves and then AF is performed. All controls, except for the zoom button, are disabled while AF is being performed. If you need to record immediately after performing a zoom operation, select manual focus (MF), focus for maximum zoom, and then zoom to level you want. Note that manual focus at the maximum wide-angle setting allows a narrower focusing range than TELE, so you should focus at the maximum TELE setting here.
