We designed our serial connections to be compatible with a straight-through 9-pin male-to-female serial cable. Please note that we only use pins 2, 3 and 5 of the cable.

This can vary depending on which model of Lipi printer you have. As a general rule you should use a good quality parallel (sometimes also called centronics) cable no longer than 2 meters in length. Some of our models do allow for a slightly longer length (please see printer user/operator manual). The reason for this is that the data coming along the parallel cable can lose it's signal strength the further it has to travel.

T3 serial port has some bugs. Whatever the configuration software can do, the hardware handshake is always active. As most of ours scopes do not provide such signal, a home made specific connector is mandatory where RTS and CTS pin connected to the T3 serial cable MUST be wired to create a fake signal. This hardware patch will work only for scope. If you are using GPS, there is an other bug in T3 serial management that should cause a crash (buffer overflow).

The very short answer is: you can't do this easily. There are problems between the USB-to-serial stuff; problems with printer drivers; and problems with OS X (or OS 9, etc) not knowing about either. The G3's, G4's and iMacs do not have the old Apple "DIN-8" connector (serial Localtalk) for modems and printers. These later Macs either use USB or Ethernet. Generally 1 x 19 cables should be used for all railing applications. 1 x 19 cable is stiff with minimal stretch, perfect for railings with runs up to 50 feet. 7 x 7 cable is more flexible with more stretch and can be used for railings with very short runs. 7 x 19 is very flexible and should never be used for cable rails.

The programming cable is a 6-foot straight-thru RJ12 cable (6 position / 6 conductor) and is provided with an RJ12-to-DB9 adaptor.
