Most email programs available today are either free, or come in two versions: a simplified or ad-supported free version and an enhanced or non-advertising version that you can purchase. For a good mix of features and security, we recommend Eudora. Outlook Express is included with Windows, but its scripting features make it highly susceptible to email-borne viruses unless you configure it very carefully and keep up with security updates.

In most programs you will be shown where internet cafés are located where you may use email and international phone lines. Email access is very affordable, and the international calls from these places, also are very reasonable. In some programs, you will be able to use computers in your coordinator’s offices. Please ask once you arrive.

The only verification I have that students submit e-mail assignments on time is the e-mail date/time stamp; I must keep records according to the date published on the e-mail that students send. If you notice or if you are informed that your e-mail date/time stamp is set incorrectly, you should send assignments at least a day early. In general, you want your 'netmail' and 'netnews' parameters in static to result in valid headers, so that people can reply to you. If you can do so, get into a domain and domainize all your headers. It'll make your life easier and will do the same for people who exchange mail with you. The important thing to remember is that if you put a domain-style address out without being domainized, people will probably not be able to reply to your mail.
