The Foundation sponsors volunteer support groups all over the world as well as telephone support contacts. The National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) has some exciting programs to provide people affected by osteoporosis with the support they need to successfully cope with the disease.

Mycobacterium paratuberculosis is a bacteria found in cow's milk. The bacteria can cause Johnes disease in cows, which has symptoms similar to Crohn's disease. Some researchers in the United Kingdom found that the bacteria can survive the pasteurization process and reported finding the bacteria in people with IBD. They believe the bacteria can be passed to people through milk and cause the development of Crohn's disease.

We are ambivalent about eating disorders support groups. For someone who has recently begun to starve or stuff, especially someone young in years, we recommend formal treatment to quickly break disordered eating patterns and restore physical and psychological health. If people find friends and acceptance in a support group, they may begin to define their identity as "eating disordered" so they can continue to belong and participate. That makes recovery much harder.
