FormSprint supports all HP-compatible printer fonts and contains the MICR and OCR A fonts. Other "soft fonts" can be accommodated based on individual customer requirements. Any PC GUI program can be used to design forms simply by printing the form to a file and uploading it to FormSprint. However, FormSprint is designed for maximum performance and flexibility in an System i production environment.

FormSprint uses HP's Printer Command Language (PCL) and supports PCL-compatible laser printers. Just about any laser printer has a PCL-emulation.

ZapfDingbats TrueType fonts can be configured to be substituted with one of the supported fonts or printed as graphics. To configure the TrueType font substitution: TrueType fonts that use the symbol character set such as "Wingdings" are automatically printed as graphics. Printing fonts as graphics can significantly increase the size of the PDF file, so this feature should be used with care. Downloadable Type 1 Postscript fonts are not currently supported. FormSprint's editor uses a coordinates-based approach to form design. Form elements such as boxes, lines, text and graphics are easily positioned using simple table entry screens. Positioning is precise up to 1/100th of a millimeter.

FormSprint's Batch Job Controller manages the form-data merge process automatically without user intervention. Processing occurs when the application spool file is sent to a FormSprint queue. FormSprint perfroms the merge based on the form definition and sends the merged file to an attached printer queue. The Batch Job Controller can manage as many queues as necessary and forms can also be set up to print on any printer based on variable data.

Only TrueType fonts are supported. pdfFactory supports Asian fonts and non-ANSI character fonts such as Hebrew, Greek, and Central European. Version 2.43 and later now support Type 1 fonts. pdfFactory Pro supports URLs in standard such as http://, file:// and standard email addresses. It does not support links that contain anything other than a fully spelled out URL or file designator.

Embedding means that the fonts are contained within the file and do not need to be sent as separate files. This is done when the PDF is created.

FormSprint uses the data contained in a standard System i spool file (Printer device type *SCS). The FormSprint Spool Mapper allows the manipulation of the spool file data without application program changes. Spool file data can be repositioned, reformatted, converted to a bar code, printed in a different font and many other operations to meet output requirements.

Graphics are scanned images in TIFF format that have been converted to the FormSprint format with the FormSprint TIFF Conversion Utility. Graphics can be part of the fixed form or print based on variable data in the spool file.

Type 1 fonts are now supported (requires Windows NT/2000/XP/2003), You will need Version 2.43/5.43 onwards to access this support.

When a soft font is selected: The cursor size is automatically scaled according to the size of the soft font. If the cursor blinking feature is used it is controlled by the application by calling the library function gcursorblink with the appropriate intervals. Beside this all LCD cursor handling is transparent for the application.

Macros can be thought of as pieces of a form although the entire form can be defined as a macro. For instance, a three-page invoice form could consist of four macros; one that contains everything common to all three pages, and three that contained the unique elements of one page. Changes to the form would then only require the affected macro to be changed rather than having to make the same change in all pages.

FormSprint's built-in archive data base system can archive a form or form page and index the file based on up to 10 user-defined criteria. Retrieved files can be displayed (requires optional PDF conversion utility), printed, faxed and/or emailed (requires fax and/or email solution). We do not generate these fonts when PDFs are produced with OCR turned on. These fonts require Unicode text embedding while we currently support only ASCII text embeddings. However, if one of these fonts is already embedded in the PDF document, the text layer (and the ability to search on it) is maintained by PdfCompressor.

Any bitmap editing program that lets you enter text at a 72 ppi document resolution. At 72 ppi pixels and points are exactly the same. The only program that I know of that can't do this is JASC's PaintShopPro which is unable to match points and pixels even at 72 ppi and won't let you enter fractional point sizes. With its 'fixed' 96 ppi font rendering, you would have to set a 10 pixel font at 7.5 points but it won't let you do that.

Even browsers that do not support font embedding are fully supported. Web pages are partially formatted on the server and text set in non-standard fonts are transmitted as images to these browsers.

The Manorama Onlinesite is using dynamic fonts and hence, it is not necessary to download thefonts for specific browsers. Browsers thatsupport Manorama Online site with dynamic fonts are Internet Explorer 5.5 orabove for Windows and Netscape 4.x (Windows, Macintosh, Unix). OpenType fonts are a relatively new font format, they are not always backwards-compatible with older operating systems. Major OS and application developers (Apple, Adobe and Microsoft) have made noteable attempts to accomodate users of older applications and operating systems. However, since their software was developed before the advent of OpenType, the available support is limited.

If neither your X server nor your X font server supports you can try one of the TruType font servers: xfstt (http://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/X11/fonts/) or xfsft (http://www.dcs.ed.ac.uk/home/jec/programs/xfsft/ .

The best answer is not to have "all of these fonts". One of the greatest mistakes a beginning DTPer makes is to use 20 different fonts on one small publication. The best thing to do is keep to a smaller number of fonts that serve your needs best. Plus, PageMaker's performance decreases dramatically with respect to the number of fonts installed in your system. Most publications look best when you use only two or so typefaces. Simpler is usually better when it comes to typefaces.

We use web fonts for body text and for menus, because they are easier to read, can be updated in the CMS, and can be read by search engines. Traditionally web designers have used Arial and Verdana for body text. However there are much wider choices now, particularly if your target market uses Windows XP.

Most of the fonts I downloaded from various sites on the web. The rest came with programs or operating systems I've bought. A few have been sent to me by people who have invented scripts.

You can use the standard Windows fonts. In addition, Web4Print supports the use of SmartFonts which are high-quality fonts ideal for perfect typographical quality. SmartFonts produce perfectly spaced text and headlines.

The fonts are not in the Generations program.? The Generations program uses TrueType fonts that are already available on your computer. Your friend has more fonts than you do on her computer (not in Generations). You can purchase additional fonts through an office supply store.

ScriptServer provides full access to printer-based PostScript fonts. It also supports font downloading to printer RAM and to the printer's hard disk, if present. Permanently downloaded fonts are checked at queue startup, and only downloaded if not already present in the printer. Also, fonts can be downloaded on a job-specific basis using the PRELOAD parameter with the PRINT command.

FormSprint includes the MICR font for check printing and signature and other security for check processing.

FormSprint prints labels on standard laser printers, supports PCL-compatible label printers and Zebra label printers.

With the optional PDF conversion utility, any form or form page can be printed and/or converted to a PDF or TIF file and placed in a shared folder or in a directory in the IFS.

FormSprint will interface with just about any PCL-compatible fax or email solution. ICS is a reseller for KeyesMail and KeyesFax and FormSprint is tightly integrated with these packages to provide automatic faxing and emailing.
