My downloaded R6 installation complains that the "CD is Corrupted" - What's wrong?

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
The ZIP archive must extracted to the root of a drive (for instance, C:\ or some other filesystem device.) If you extract it into a subdirectory (as WinZip's "Wizard Mode" will do if it is allowed to manage the extraction and/or execution of the archive) then the installation will not work. To resolve this problem, delete the first extraction and re-extract directly to the root of the drive, then run the setup.exe again from the root as required.

ajc 1.0 complains that it can't find javac. What's wrong?

AspectJ Frequently Asked Questions
ajc 1.0 does not try to locate javac in your path: it uses the javac classes directly. In JDK 1.2 and 1.3 these classes are found in tools.jar (in the lib directory of the JDK distribution), which must be on your classpath to make ajc work with javac. Inspect the java command that launches ajc to make sure that tools.jar is on the classpath for ajc; the -classpath option only applies to the sources compiled. I'm running under 1.4, but ajdoc asks for 1.

I just downloaded an ISO and burned it to a CD. However, the CD won't boot, what's wrong?

Many people make the mistake of copying an ISO image directly to a CDROM. If you see one large iso image on your cd, as opposed to files and directories, that's probably what happened. This is not how it should be done. The ISO image is used to create a CDROM--it is not the actual thing that will go on a CDROM.

File corruption is caused by a broken download. To avoid file corruption, it is best to not use the network while you are downloading (surf the Internet for example). To get a new clean file, you first need to clear your browser cache to remove the old download.

Why does the system respond "Wrong label" when I reboot it after installation ?

UltraLinux FAQ
The system needs a Sun disklabel to find it's partition information. This information is stored in the first block of the drive. If your bootdrive doesn't contain such a disklabel, you will have to create it using fdisk. Within fdisk, you have the command s, which can be used to build a new Sun disklabel for your drive. Older machines can only boot properly when the boot image and configuration file are located within the first GB, and sometimes within the first 2 GB of it's boot disk.

Why does it say I need X11r5 or higher when I have r6 ?

LessTif Frequently Asked Questions
Several people have reported build problems; the configure script looks for an X distribution and then checks whether it is X11R5 or X11R6. On some systems the configure script stops, saying configure: error: You must have X11 Revision 5 or higher to compile LessTif while the system actually has X11R6. Apparently this has to do with installations of Linux, in which the include files (under /usr/include) often contain symbolic links to the source directories (either on disk or on CD-ROM).
