Each cat is housed in a large (48"x30"x30") individually ventilated cage in the radiation ward with plenty of soft bedding and a litterbox. Relocating a feral cat can be a difficult process. First you have to find a willing homeowner and a safe location. Removing a cat from its established territory is only done as a last resort and only if we have a safe relocation site. Once that relocation site is found, the feral must be caged for three weeks at the new site so it can become accustomed to the sights, sounds and smells of it's new home. In addition, a regular feeding pattern is established.

Interested gardeners met in November 1999 to discuss applying to the city for a Neighborhood matching grant to cover the costs of designing a garden in Magnuson Park. A Small and Simple, $10,000 grant was applied for under the name of the Magnuson Gardens Coalition. As part of the grant requirement, gardeners pledged volunteer time (in-kind match) to match the dollars of the grant. The grant was awarded to the group in March 2000 and the process of community outreach and garden design began.
