The Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resource Emergency (CARE) Act is Federal legislation that addresses the unmet health needs of persons living with HIV disease by funding primary health care and support services. The CARE Act was name after Ryan White, an Indiana teenager whose courageous struggle with HIV/AIDS and against AIDS-related discrimination helped educate the nation.

The Ryan White CARE Act (RWCA) was reauthorized (12/19/2006) as the “Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Modernization Act of 2006 (RWMA)”. The language establishes opportunity for more seamless access to HIV/AIDS care and treatment. It is a privilege to note that this revised language is due in large part to the hard work, diligence, and passion of community members and organizations that came from within our AI/AN communities.

Federal funding for ADAP and HIV care services comes from the Ryan White CARE Act, which was reauthorized in December 2006. Final funding levels for ADAP and care services in South Carolina for 2007/2008 will not be known until early April 2007.

The American College Test or ACT is another entrance examination that schools will accept in lieu of or in addition to the SAT. The test is divided into four sections: English, math, social science, and natural science. Responding to the changes in the SAT I, the ACT will also offer a new writing component.
