Despite the emotional appeal of re-forestation projects, their low cost, and the benefits associated with the natural areas they provide for local communities, the net level of CO2 emissions reductions they generate is far from clear. Technically speaking trees store CO2 while they are growing. However when they die or burn down in a forest fire, say, this CO2 is re-released into the atmosphere.

Funds will be primarily raised through alumni contributions. The aim is to promote and sustain a culture of Alumni Giving, the practice of alumni donating back to their alma mater. No. Climat Mundi funds a number of projects and then pools the CO2 reductions before re-distributing them. It is therefore impracticable for you to choose the projects you wish to fund or for us to tell you which projects we will fund with the reductions you have purchased. However, if enough customers show an interest in this option we will look into the possibilities. While our project is in its initial stages we prefer to use this pooling system.

Not at the moment. Actually most of France's electricity comes from nuclear power, which does not emit CO2, a much appreciated fact! Installing solar energy systems or wind farms in France would offset a minimum amount of CO2 in comparison to other countries like Germany, Australia, China, Denmark or India, where most of the electricity comes from burning coal.

We reduce CO2 emissions beyond those already promised by the UK government through the Kyoto Protocol. So, by funding projects in developing countries without Kyoto targets we ensure that the CO2 emission reductions that you buy go beyond current UK government commitments. By investing in developing countries, we also contribute more significantly to economic development, local sustainability and protection of habitats and species.

Proposals usually are not approved when they are the sole means of financial support. Preferably, grants are made in conjunction with other sources.

After you submit a one page proposal, the Management Group will select the most qualifying ones based on the criteria. If your proposal has been selected, you will be asked to submit a detailed proposal by the end of December 2004.

The ICF will fund proposals that offer the highest rate of return in terms of improving the investment climate, particularly those that have the greatest impact on the environment for small business and poverty reduction (primarily through job creation). Project proposals will be screened, appraised, consulted on and further developed as necessary by the ICF Secretariat.

Our grants have ranged from £200 to £50,000, but most fall within the £10,000 to £25,000 range. We like to see value for money, and projects reaching as many children as possible. This may mean only a handful, or hundreds of children in a region. We are very keen to receive a detailed budget, and will expect each item to be broken down as far as possible in order to ensure that the application is as economical as possible.

The Sutton Trust will fund projects across the UK, in any area where there is need, including rural and inner city areas. The Linux Foundation Technical Advisory Board, consisting of members of the open-source development community, will review all requests and recommend to The Linux Foundation board of directors those requests it believes will provide the greatest benefit to progress in the open source development effort and have the greatest chance for success. The initial criteria for funding requires that the project or need meet the parameters of our mission statement. The WCB manages eight (8) programs that provide funding opportunities for different types of habitat conservation projects. A description of these programs can be found on the WCB home page, on the left hand column, under the Programs link.
