Offset printing is flat and Thermography printing is raised, similar to engraving. Thermography printing has traditionally been used for formal events, but recently has become popular for all occasions.

First of all, Silkscreen and Offset printing do not refer to the same colour guides. Silkscreen printing is done refering to the Pantone (or HKS) color reference. On the other hand, Offset printing refers to the CMYK color reference.

It is a process which uses an etched thin, flexible metal plate that fits to a curved cylinder. The inked image is transferred, or offset, from this plate to a revolving rubber covered cylinder, which in turn transfers the image to the paper/board.

First off, ALL are excellent methods for putting surface artwork on your media; BUT some methods are better suited for certain artwork than others. Thermal Transfer printed CDs and DVDs: This is the quickest and most cost effective method for printing directly on the surface of the CD or DVD. However, there are limits to this type of printing. This type of printing will print in single colors only; Black (default), Red, Blue.

Ink Colors.Commercial offset printing (also known as offset lithography) utilize four basic ink colors: CMYK. Dots of cyan (blue), magenta (red), yellow, and black (the K) are placed next to each other in specific patterns that trick the eye into seeing millions of colors. Additionally, offset printing can use premixed inks in a variety of specific colors as well as metallic and fluorescent inks. These are called spot colors.

Web offset: An offset process in which paper is fed in the form of reel is called web offset printing. There are two types of web offset printing b. UV offset : An offset printing process in which UV curing inks/ hybrid inks are used for printing on non absorbent substrate.

Both methods have their uses and determining which way to go should realistically depend more on your individual needs than anything else. Offset printing your book in large quantities has a definite “economy of scale” advantage that typically results in a much lower “per book” cost. The larger your print run, the larger your aggregate benefits.

Offset printing works with all types of line art, close registration of ink colors, bendays, half tones, duo-tones, and 4-color process images. This process is ideal for full ink coverage, reverses, and bleeds. With letterpress, the ink is impressed on the paperboard or tissue sheet. It works best with simple messages and designs of 1 to 2 colors.

It depends. It is important to realize that the Offset printing and Silkscreen printing are two processes fundamentally different. They are used for different purposes. Offset printing will be used for complex artwork with gradual colours and many details. And Silkscreen printing will be used for simpler artwork with a precise number of colours. For smaller quantities (under 500) it is usually most economical to go with a photocopier or digital color copier. There are usually limitations to certain types of paper and specifications. If you need larger runs (500 or more) or specific requirements (i.e. high gloss paper, foil stamping, full bleeds, etc.) the offset printing press may be the best (or only) choice.

A image destined for halftone printing conventionally specifies each pixel in terms of dot percentage in film. An imagesetter's halftoning machinery generates dots whose areas are proportional to the requested coverage. In principle, dot percentage in film is inversely proportional to linear-light reflectance. Two phenomena distort the requested dot coverage values. First, printing involves a mechanical smearing of the ink that causes dots to enlarge.

Read offsets occur on reading (extracting). Write offsets happen on writing (burning) a CD-R. Most CD record programs do not support write offsets (as EAC perhaps do not support your writer for burning). So, to create an exact (offset corrected) copy of your CD, you would have to compensate the write offset already on reading. So instead of specifing the read offset as sample offset for extraction, you would rather use the combined read/write offset.

The clocks in a distributed system inevitably drift away from each other. The amount of drift is unpredictable and varies with temperature, voltage, and age of the crystals. Consequently, periodical resynchronizations of the clocks are necessary if a notion of common time – synchronization – is to be established. There are two ways to resynchronize clocks. One way is to periodically check the difference and adjust each clock so as to reduce the offset among them as much as possible.

Offset printing, or offset lithography, requires extensive equipment and specialized operators. Printing presses are designed for mass production of printed material. As a result, offset printing requires substantial setup and the costs of this setup must be distributed among the quantity of printed materials. For process color printing on 11x17 paper, quanities of 1000 or more must be ordered before the cost per print begins to be linear versus quanity.

Screen Printing - The screen printing process consists of three elements: the screen which is the image carrier, the squeegee and ink. In order to create a screen printed design, the artwork must first go through color separation. An artist breaks down the artwork into separate films by color. A stencil is produced on a screen using an emulsion. The screen printing process uses a porous mesh stretched tightly over a frame made of wood or metal.

Simply put, Offset Printing looks better! CDs have traditionally been silkscreen printed. And, although not a new printing technology of itself, offset printing is a relatively new method for printing onto CDs. Offset printing is 175 lines per inch (vs. 85-135 lines per inch for silkscreen). The more lines per inch, the better (smoother & clearer) the printing looks! There is no "knock-out ring" cutting into your image (it's truly "edge to edge" print coverage).

In Set Symbol Display of the 3D Windows menu click on Select Symbol Font and change it to Ariel/Bold/13 point and try printing again.

The CMYK printing is based on 4 colours of reference: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black. But the high definition of this process relies on the fact that these 4 colours are printed on a "white" background. In the case where the printing fits exactly to the outside cutting, the white colour covers the whole surface. But if a metal boarder must appear, we will need an additional frame to define the surface to print in white, which will be smaller than the outside cutting.
