How difficult a student views the program has more to do with how prepared they are when they enter the program, whether they are experiencing outside distractions, and how motivated they are.

No. Once you have been admitted into the clinical phase of the program, you must register for the entire block of sequenced and required Dental Hygiene courses each semester. During the first week of classes, the program coordinator confirms registration into the block.

Yes! A few things, actually. Sometimes Poms baby teeth will not fall out on their own, which will require a trip to the vet to have them pulled. Also, make sure you provide plenty of chew toys and dry food to cut down on the amount of tarter build up. Lastly, start brushing your Poms teeth immediately ? this will prevent trips to the vet for professional teeth cleanings. Raw bones are a great way to also help with tartar build up ? just make sure they're raw, as they can choke on cooked bones.

Yes. BIO 221, Principles of Microbiology, must not be taken earlier than three (3) years prior to enrolling in the first dental hygiene course (DHY 121). Our courses are not difficult to pass. The Final Exam for our courses consists of 100 multiple choice questions. Our Exams are all Open Book, and require only 60% to pass.

Dental Hygiene classes are held in the afternoons and evenings, 5 days per week, generally beginning at 12 P.M. and ending at 8:30 P.M. Students may also have classes on Saturdays and extra enrichment requirements that require morning attendance.

Currently, most additions to the dental school curriculum are items that have been sponsored by drug, laser and implant companies that have paid for the treatments to be researched and published. Promising techniques that don't involve the use of drugs, lasers or implants are often not researched in the University. As the treatment gains popularity, we expect that it will one day be taught in core dental school curriculums.
