PTS DOS is a russian DOS, written in assembler. It's really fast. It comes on two floppy disks, one with the system and the utilities, the other one with Arachne as webbrowser. It claims to be MS-DOS compatible, but it's a bit strange in configuration and memory management but it is still developed. At http://phystechsoft.

DOS FAQ by Christoph FuchsYou have to change the country-settings in config.sys (add 21000 to the country code): COUNTRY=21049,437,c:\drdos\country.sys This will switch the currency from "DM" to "EUR" and the format of the date from "dd.mm.yyyy" to the new format defined in DIN EN 28601 (ISO 8601) "yyyy-mm-dd". This will also work for the other countries in the European Union which take part in the currency union and which are supported by DR-DOS: Simply add 21000 to the country code in config.
Related QuestionsHow to utilize up to 8 Gb disk space for DR-DOS?
DOS FAQ by Christoph FuchsOn modern system with harddisks >8GB you often have got the problem that you must use the new 0Fh extended partition (LBA) instead of the old sort 05h extended partition (CHS). DR-DOS 7.03 won't accept this new type 0Fh and won't have access to the data. A solution would be to use the old 05h partition type but then you would have access to 8 GB under DR DOS but you would be limited to these 8 GB under Windows 9x/NT, too.
Related QuestionsWhat is DOS?
DOS FAQ by Christoph FuchsDOS is a Disk Operating System, that means it's an OS that uses a disk. Operating systems for IBM PCs since the early 1980s were called DOS. DOS consists of the command prompt, mostly command.com and two kernelfiles. That's a basic DOS system. DOS was a mainstream OS until Windows 95 (which also uses DOS, btw) threw it off the market.

Transcript of the February 1, 2001 NCVHS Subcommittee on Sta...MS. EMERSON: I am glad you clarified that. Let me just -- I will address the easy part of it, I think, first. I think that the reason for the emphasis on the so-called showstoppers in dividing the reported errata into the showstoppers and the ones that weren't showstoppers was to try to get that body that might meet the test of being necessary to be corrected in order to permit compliance.

IV FAQs - U.S. Embassy Wellington, New ZealandGenerally not. Many categories of immigrant visas involve long waiting periods before the visa can be issued. It is generally not possible to spend this period in the U.S. If you intend to remain permanently in the U.S., attempting to enter on a non-immigrant visa or under the visa waiver program is not advisable and could result in your involuntary return to New Zealand.
Related QuestionsD7) Do the protection systems in DR DOS work against viruses?
Virus-L FAQ 2.00Partially. Neither the password file/directory protection available from DR DOS version 5 onwards, nor the secure disk partitions from DR DOS 6 were intended to combat viruses, but they do so to some extent. If you have DR DOS, it is very wise to password-protect your files (to stop accidental damage too), but don't depend on it as your only means of defense. The use of the password command (e.g. PASSWORD/W:MINE *.EXE *.

Related QuestionsSince I am not familiar with the DOS mode, is there a way to update the BIOS under Windows?
Leadtek - We make dreams a realityYes. The update program file, winflash.exe, is provided on the software CD. Copy the file from the software CD to your hard disk and then run it. This usually relates to the RAM module compatibility issue. Select the DDR memory Voltage to be either -0.1V or +0.1V in the "X-BIOS II" option in CMOS. Why does the system hang up as I plug in two DIMMs of memory module? The system is stable using only one DIMM of memory module. This problem relates to the memory frequency issues.

Related QuestionsSect. 18) So why can't I exec common DOS commands this way (as in 18.8)?
Java Programmer's FAQ - Part DThe reason is that many of the DOS commands are not individual programs, but merely "functions" of command.com. There is no DIR.EXE or COPY.EXE for example. Instead, one executes the command processor (shell) explicitly with a request to perform the built-in command, like so: Runtime.getRuntime().exec("command.com /c dir") for example. On NT, the command interpreter is "cmd.exe", so the statement would be Runtime.getRuntime().

Related QuestionsIs DOS MAME faster than MAMEW?
FAQ'sFirst off, now that the development build of MAME is windows based, I would expect mamew to outperform mamed in a DOS box under Windoze. So the only gain would be under pure DOS. I tried running DOS MAME under DOS about a year ago. I couldn't get the drivers for my sound card set up under DOS so I had to run without sound. Without sound, DOS MAME was at most frameskip 1 faster than mamew without sound, if that much.
Related QuestionsWhy is the compiler DOS based, not Windows?
HI-TECH Software Frequently Asked QuestionsWell, firstly we are developing a Windows user interface. This will be Win-32, i.e. it will run under Windows 95 and Windows NT. But since the compiler is a non-graphical application, and the DOS interface runs quite happily under all flavours of Windows already, it has not been as high a priority as making sure that the basic functionality is top-notch. In other words, we believe an excellent compiler with a DOS front-end is better than an average compiler with a Windows front end.

Internet Partners: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)Short for Denial of Service attack, a type of attack on a network that is designed to bring the network to its knees by flooding it with useless traffic. Many DoS attacks, such as the Ping of Death and Teardrop attacks, exploit limitations in the TCP/IP protocols. For all known DoS attacks, there are software fixes that system administrators can install to limit the damage caused by the attacks. But, like viruses, new DoS attacks are constantly being dreamed up by hackers.
Related QuestionsWhat do you need to run DOS?
DOS FAQ by Christoph FuchsFirst, you need a computer which is IBM compatible. The computer should have 640 KB of RAM or even more :)) (in some cases it will work with fewer RAM, too, but I would use more). Then, you need a floppy drive, a harddisk or something simular. It would be great to have a keyboard or a mouse and if you want to see something you might need a monitor... but that's all. For those who always were happy with Windows it might be annoying to type a lot at the command prompt.

Related QuestionsCan I run Quicken for DOS on it?
HPLX.NET FAQs: THE FAQYes, users have reported success with DOS-based Quicken through version 8 (most recent DOS Quicken version). Recent versions may require more memory than is available under the system manager, but it's easy enough to exit the system manager and run Quicken directly from the DOS prompt, or run it in a separate Software Carousel work area. The "disable filer" trick may allow you to squeeze even the latest Quicken in under the system manager.
