Depending on the newsreader software you use, these steps may vary. I will use Outlook Express for this example, since more people use this than any other newsreaders. For Outlook Express, pull down Tools|Accounts and click "Add|News". This will ask for a display name. Type something in here, like "Glennbo". This is the name that will appear on your posts. Click Next. The next screen will ask for your email address. Enter something like "GlennboIHATESPAM@myisp.

Camping = Describes a behavior in head-to-head games where a player hides out and waits for the enemy. A perfectly reasonable strategy, but despised by those killed by the campers. You can be successful if you camp, but prepare to be hated. CTF = Capture The Flag: a popular type of team vs. team game where the objective is to capture the enemy flag and bring it back to your base. There are many variations on the standard CTF game.

ProductiveMail works automatically and doesn't bother the recipient with message boxes like the ones used by standard read receipts. Besides, standard read receipts don't work if the recipient reads your message in web-based email clients like Google, Hotmail or Yahoo!. In fact, standard read receipts are so irritating that recipients ignored them most of the time. Absolutely not. We believe that the privacy of email correspondence should not be ever compromised.

You select multiple files in Outlook Express the same way you select multiple files anywhere else in Windows: Either hold down the Control key and click on additional files (if you select one you don't want by accident, you can remove it from your selection by clicking on it again, still holding down the Control key). Alternatively hold down the Shift key and click on another file - all the files between the first file you clicked and the second one will be selected.

Read the message in the alert window and click on the OK button. You may need to repeat this step two or three times. Click on the Open this file from its current location radio button, and click on the OK button in the File Download window. Click on the Yes button in the Registry Editor window and repeat for the last window. Outlook Express has now been configured for this account. You need to repeat this process for as many accounts as you want to access through Outlook Express.

Account 'mail.server.com', Server 'mail.server.com', Protocol SMTP, Port 25, Secure(SSL) No, Socket Error 10060, Error Number 0x800CCC0E The reason you are getting this error is that some Internet Service Providers (ISP's), including AT&T WorldNet, MindSpring, MSN, Prodigy Internet, Sprynet, EarthLink, USAOnline, NetZero, CableAmerica, Cox Communications, require you to send all outgoing messages through their mail servers.

Outlook does not store mails in the same format as that of Outlook Express. Everything is stored in a unique file, whereas Outlook Express stores them in separate files for each folder (Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items,...). But if needed, Outlook mails can be archived by Express Archiver thanks to the exportation/importation wizards included in Outlook and Outlook Express.

If you have a Sasquatch account on the list and it isn't working, click on the account name and then "Remove." Click "Yes" to confirm. Make sure the select box is set such that the text at the top reads "My incoming mail server is a POP3 server." In the box for "Incoming mail server:" type in mail2.sasquatch.com or if you have a domain, type in mail.yourdomain.com Make sure "Remember password" is checked, unless you want to type in your password every time you check your e-mail.

Update Outlook Express(OE) to the latest version from Windowsupdate.com. Use anti-virus software such as Norton Anti-virus to scan email. Personally, I never use the email scanning that NAV provides, because I use the latest OE and the following measures: Disable the Preview Pane when downloading messages from your ISP. A quick way to do this is to add a button to the toolbar.

There is no option in Outlook Express that allows this. However, Dominik Jain has come up with a solution. Not only does it position the cursor and colour the different levels of quoting, it converts emoticons such as :) to real images. Check out the website and download OE-Quotefix here.

The Internet Connection Wizard makes short work of setting up your email box by walking you through each step for every e-mail account you set up. Start Outlook Express, and on the Tools menu, click Accounts. If the Internet Connection Wizard starts up automatically, skip ahead to step 4. On the 'Your Name' page of the wizard, type your name as you want it to appear to everyone who gets e-mail from you, and then click Next.

You can protect access to Outlook Express by restricting access to its executable file, msimn.exe, which is usually located in the C:\Program Files\Outlook Express folder. You can also protect individual folders used by Outlook Express by restricting access to the appropriate message files, located in the Store Folder of Outlook Express.

These recommended email applications are IMAP email clients and, other than Outlook 2003, come installed as part of the operating system, are robust and stable and are updated automatically. Automatic updates and security fixes are applied directly through software update for Apple Mail, Microsoft Windows update or WAUS (if configured) for Outlook Express and Microsoft Office update or WAUS (if configured) for Outlook 2003. There is no need to run a separate installer to obtain new versions.

Currently both Outlook and Outlook Express have a support category of -1 meaning Information Services believes there are problems associated with running this software in our environment so use of it is actively discouraged. There are vast differences between Outlook and Outlook Express in terms of functionality. However, Information Services can only support the FirstClass client, meaning that if you have a problem with a different client you are officially on your own.
