Some manufacturers make special grpahcis cards for PCs which allow PC to be succesfully used with fixed frequency monitors. There are lots of different montors around, but most of those monitors use standard analogue video interfaces so they can be connected to PC video card with only quite small modifications (correct cable and possibly some simple electronics). Nowadays the modern VGA cards are quite freely programmable devices and in most cases it is possible to make the VGA card to send out correct signals for the monitor at least in one screen resolution.

It is possible to damage equipments when playing with PC vidoe hardware and workstation monitorts. If the monitor has standard video inputs, is workign properly, cable is properly constructed and everything is connected to properly grounded power outlet then the risk of damaging the graphics card is minimal. Some monitors can be damaged by sending wrong frequencies to them, so be sure that you send right frequencies to monitor.

One way to identify the right VGA cooler is through the distances of the various pitches. On nVidia cards, pitch distances are usually 55 mm and 80 mm opposite diagonal; on their higher cards, they usually come with four clip holes of 61 mm and 75 mm pitches opposite diagonal to each other. Not normally. Even with the GS's RGB monitor connector, the GS puts out a 15Khz horizontal refresh signal. Most modern monitors (notable exceptions are the old NEC Multisync 1 and 2 monitors) require the signal to be at least 30Khz, and thus won't display the picture. If you have a question on whether a given monitor will work, check the manual for it or contact the manufacturer to see if it'll support 15Khz horizontal syncs.

We STRONGLY recommend using VESA timings with maximum resolution (native resolution), because TFT-LCD monitors operate best in native mode. However, if you can't follow these timings, all our monitors will operate within a wide range.
