San Diego County offers many urban and rural areas to see mammals. The extensive system of canyons through the urban section of San Diego allows many mammals to live and move somewhat freely. Though to see many different mammals more frequently you should explore many of our public lands including:

All of Waterfront Park is open & offers free public viewing for Thunder. The show is so massive that it can be seen almost anywhere. Waterfront Park will have continuous action and interactive attractions from 11 AM until the firework's finale at 10 PM. Along River Road is always a popular place. The entertainment garden of the "Chow Wagon" at Waterfront Park offers live bands for a 2007 Pegasus Pin admission. Jeffersonville, Indiana has changed over the last several of years.

You have a good chance of seeing animals on the river rafting and jet boat trips that go out of Talkeetna. Otherwise, your best bet is the early bus tours or shuttle buses that go out into Denali Park. The Denali Park Road is a major "thru-way" for wildlife. Moose can be seen in any parts of the island but, the areas that seem to have the most is around Feldtmann Lake, Washington Harbor and Chickenbone Lake. It also depends on what time of year you go. I have never seen one but, imagine, I have walked right by one. Consider yourself lucky if you hear them. It is possible to see tracks and scat though. They seem to be on the western side of the island more than the east during the summer. Most likely due to the population being lower on that end.

There are numerous excellent places to snorkel however the single beach we recommend is the beach along Hotel ElDorado on the Maya Riviera. Due to its proximity to numerous resorts and Cabanas this is a quick place to get to and the beach is almost all coral. It takes 2 days to fully explore this beach.

The area surrounding Nome has a large population of muskoxen and reindeer. We sometimes encounter these animals near the road and will stop to photograph them. There are many moose, but they're usually away from the road and shy; we may get some distant shots. There are grizzly bears, but because they're hunted they're very wary of man and vehicles and will generally flee before we even see them; as a result we've never photographed bears on this trip.
