Neither ProDOS nor DOS 3.3 includes a built-in Disk Copy command. So, to copy diskettes you will need to use some kind of copy utility. The ProDOS standard Utilities Disk includes a Disk Copy option. The DOS 3.3 System Master disk includes a Disk Copy program named "COPYA". A very good Disk Copy utility for 5.25" (DOS 3.3, ProDOS, ...) diskettes is Disk Muncher.

Open the menu with available drives (Alt+F1/F2) and open the context menu for the desired floppy disk drive (click the right mouse button or use Shift+F10 key). You can choose "Format..." or "Copy Disk..." from this menu.

For the first attempt to read in an original disk, always use the default settings, without specifying any options on the command line. The default settings will read each track with the standard bit rate and will not read halftrack information. In my experience this is sufficient for 90% of all original disks. Specifying any options will rather harm then help with these disks.

Disk Groups help you organize Dynamic Disks and help to prevent data loss. Windows 2000 allows only one Disk Group per computer (this may change). Disk Groups can organize storage when you use Veritas LDM-Pro. A Disk Group uses a name consisting of the computer name plus a suffix of Dg0. Yes (Windows 2000 or later), make sure you read the floppy disk using the "emergency" mode and that you check the option in the settings to "recreate bad sectors" before you write the image file back to your new floppy disk. Some floppy disks use protection schemes that do not rely on bad sectors and might not work with Floppy Image.

DBAN has been run on a computer with 100 SCSI hard disks. There are no artificial limits in DBAN, but bus bandwidth is usually a limiting factor in practical application. The actual maximum device count is limited by the number of bits allocated for major device numbers in the kernel, which can be changed.

You can get the installation disks by downloading the appropriate files from one of the Debian mirrors. The installation system files are separated in subdirectories of dists/stable/main directory, and the names of these subdirectories correspond to your architecture like this: disks-arch (arch is "i386", "sparc", etc, check the site for an exact list).

First of all, a warning: whole Debian GNU/Linux is way too large to be installed from media as small as a standard 1.44MB floppy disk - you may not find installing from floppies a very pleasant experience. You can use Peter Watson's MUG! program on your IIgs to transfer files via MS-DOS Iomega Zip disks. MUG! will let you read Zip disks on a IIgs equipped with a Zip drive and a SCSI interface. MUG is an NDA; so, it can be installed like other NDA's-- e.g. having the main MUG! file (probably MUG.1.01) in the System/Desk.Accs/ folder when booting. Without manuals, disks and a Certificate of Authenticity (or similar document), TexSys Computers won't install hardware or load any software onto your system. The dealer should give you a disk and manual for the installed hardware, operating system and productivity software that you paid for.

Many antivirus and disk repair utilities can make up a (usually bootable) rescue disk for a specific system. This needs a certain amount of care and maintenance, especially if you make up more than one of these for a single PC with more than one utility. Make sure you update all your rescue disks when you make a significant change, and that you understand what a rescue disk does and how it does it before you try to use it.

When many optical disks are required for storage a device called a jukebox can be used. This will automatically mount any one of the disks held within it, whenever requested by a user. A Kaleidescape customer has a fair-use right to make copies of DVDs and CDs that he or she owns onto the Kaleidescape System's hard disks. No license is required provided the copies will only be used for that customer's personal home video entertainment. The Motion Picture Association of America ("MPAA") does not issue licenses of any kind.

Kaleidescape does provide a small amount of pre-loaded high-definition video content on every System that is sold. We plan to provide more in the future as we obtain appropriate licenses from the content owners. The built-in network interface on the motherboard supports PXE network booting. Unfortunately, the BIOS settings had to be changed from the default to enable this feature. Since we had used Etherboot on KLAT2, it was simpler to use a two stage boot, using first PXE and then Etherboot. The Etherboot bootloader then loads a Linux Kernel and a compressed ramdisk image setup with the Warewulf package.
