Dragonflies certainly do eat large numbers of flying pest species, but using them to control these pests is not really feasible. There have been a number of studies carried out and only in very restricted and tightly controlled environments have Dragonflies, or their larvae, been shown to be able to control pest numbers. In the open, there is no reason to suppose that Dragonflies introduced to a pest rich habitat will stay there.

Projectile monster attacks do not hurt other monsters of the same species. For example, Imp fireballs do not hurt other Imps, but do hurt other monsters. Baron green plasma does not hurt other barons, Cacodemon gasballs don't hurt other Cacodemons, and Cyberdemons are immune to their own rockets. Bullet attacks are fair game for all. Troopers, Sergeants, and Spiderdemons all kill their own kind cheerfully.

Rarely in nightmare difficulty will you find and enemy that is immune to elemental damages 100% (such as cold, lightning, or fire). But, in hell it is much different. In nightmare you can probably still do damage to an immune to elemental assailant because he isn't totally immune. In hell though, you will need to find another way to attack. My suggestion is if you are a cold sorceress, then start building her up in another skill tab before you go to hell. This will prevent those occurrences.
