By presence we mean indication of presence in the network, and SILC supports several different kinds of presence modes. They can be changed with the UMODE command which changes your user mode in the network. Currently there are the following modes for presence: GONE (I'm away), INDISPOSED (I cannot be here), BUSY (I'm busy, don't bother me), PAGE (page me if you want to talk), and HYPER (I'm hyper active, talk to me). When mode is not set it means you are present in the network.

The required encryption mode currently is CBC with inter-packet chaining. The specification recommends implementations to use CTR mode as well, and defines randomized CBC (with random IV's) as optional mode. It is also possible to negotiate other modes during SILC key exchange protocol, if needed. We have also looked into so called authenticated encryption modes that NIST are currently considering. More information will follow later.

The AES is the only required algorithm. The protocol specification also lists optional algorithms like Twofish, CAST, etc., and you can negotiate other algorithms as well during the SILC key exchange protocol, if needed.

The required hash function is SHA-1, but also the MD5 is added to the specification as optional hash function. The SHA-1 is also the required hash function when used as part of HMAC to provide integrity protection for encrypted packets.

DIGITAL ESP - The camera meters and calculates the light levels or light level differences in the center and other areas of the image separately. CENTER WEIGHTED AVERAGING - The metering mode provides the average metering between the subject and the background lighting, placing more weight on the subject at the center. SPOT - The camera meters a very small area around the center of the subject, defined by the spot metering area mark in the viewfinder.

There are playback modes such as single-frame, Index (you can select the number of frames to display on the monitor from 4, 9 or 16 frames), Close-up (2x through 10x magnification), Slideshow (display the stored images one after another in succession) or playback images by rotating. You can operate camera control functions in the OLYMPUS Studio 1.2 software program except when using Continuous AF or when selecting Sport in the shooting mode, which uses Continuous AF.

There are four focus modes: S-AF (Single auto focus), C-AF (Continuous auto focus), MF (Manual Focus), and S-AF/MF (Simultaneous mode). C-AF (CONTINUOUS Auto Focus): The camera repeats focusing while the shutter button is pressed halfway. MANUAL FOCUS): The function allows you to manually focus on any subject while looking through the viewfinder. SIMULTANEOUS USE of S-AF mode and MF mode: You can fine-adjust focus manually by turning the focus ring after AF is performed in the S-AF mode.

The required public key algorithm is RSA, but optional support is for DSS. The RSA algorithm in SILC supports PKCS#1 standard. During the key exchange protocol also Diffie-Hellman public key algorithm is used to exchange keys. The Diffie-Hellman in SILC supports PKCS#3 standard. Adding support for other algorithms like El Gamal is possible by negotiating them in SILC key exchange. PGP keys, or as they are officially called OpenPGP certificates are supported in SILC protocol.
