Scrubbing parts of a disk is not as safe as scrubbing the entire drive. For example, many applications utilize temporary and backup files while they are running. If you scrub a file you were just working on, it is highly possible that the data still exists on your hard drive because of a temporary or backup file used by the software you were running. If you are copying a file or folder to a floppy disk or zip-drive, insert the disk/zip-disk in the drive. Sending a file or folder to a disk sends a copy. The original file or folder remains in the original location.
