After installation, all tiles should be washed and cleaned thoroughly. Cleaning should be done on a regular basis with a mild cleaning soap and water. Do not use strong detergents for regular cleaning, which will affect the grout, cause joints to come apart very quickly, impact the life of the tiles and any sealer you might apply. We also recommend that the tiles be sealed with a silicone impregnator. This will make the material impervious, and protect against any staining or spotting.

Most tiles that are frost resistant may be used outdoors. However, for safety reasons it is recommended that they are slip resistant.

If you can imagine it, you can probably use soapstone.

Small tiles are very well suited for outdoors. All tiles have a very high tolerance to freeze/thaw conditions, as they are nonporous. They are also resistant to acid rain, ultra violet rays and chemicals.

Ceramic tiles and ceramic encaustic tiles can be used with an under-floor heating system as they are superb conductors and retainers of heat and, having been fired to around 1,100F degrees, there is no risk of them cracking. Conversely, carreaux de ciments tiles are unsuitable for under-floor heating systems as they are in the first instance cured rather than fired and would likely be too thick for heat to dissipate effectively anyway.

The stone is sandstone and came from a quarry on the south side of Lichfield. This quarry was exhausted a long time ago and new sandstone is now ordered from Corse Hill in Dumfries and Galloway as it provides the closest match to the original.

Can Cultured Stone products be installed in adjacent walls to the pools? From a durability standpoint, Cultured Stone products will perform the same as any quality lightweight concrete material. However, it should be noted that as with any concrete or natural material, continued exposure to chlorine and other chemicals may eventually affect coloration. When frequently exposed to water, we recommend protection with a non-film forming breather-type masonry sealer.

Most natural stone products are very suitable for bathroom floors but should be sealed with a penetrating sealant before use. Naturally split surfaces are most popular because they provide better traction. If there is concern about how slippery the surface may become check the surface treatment (natural split surfaces are generally safest) and refer to wet pendulum slip resistance test results (V = very safe is the best category).
