Lands purchased and managed by the EEL Program are called Sanctuaries. They serve three main functions:

Universal access is a term used to describe a philosophy of access for all people regardless of age and ability. A major goal of the EEL Program is to provide universal access to its sanctuaries. To help reach this goal the EEL Program held a one-day workshop in June 1995. People with physical disabilities and organizations that support and serve them were invited. At the workshop they were asked what the EEL Program could do to make natural areas more accessible.

The EEL Selection & Management Committee (EELSMC) plays a very important role in helping the EEL Program conserve land in Brevard County. The Board of County Commissioners selects the seven member volunteer committee based on their scientific knowledge and experience. Each member is a scientist who lives and works in Brevard County, and has years of experience working with the issues facing Brevard's natural areas.

EEL is an acronym for "Early Edition Lover." Hence, an EEL would be someone who proudly claims to be a fan and supporter of the show.

The Asian swamp eel has characteristics that make it very adaptable to a new environment. It has the potential to become widespread in the U.S. and impact a variety of native aquatic and wetland species, and eventually entire ecosystems. It has the potential to spread from South Florida to the southern half of the country because it can survive both in hot and cold climates. It breathes air and can move across land. This gives it the potential to spread rapidly and makes control difficult.

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is located at Angel Canyon, a 33,000-acre ranch in the majestic red-rock country of southern Utah, just outside the town of Kanab. The sanctuary is at the heart of the famous Golden Circle of national parks, close to Zion National Park, the Grand Canyon's North Rim, Bryce Canyon, and Lake Powell.

NO. Allies cannot be healed at Sanctuary - even in TWO TOWERS site path , unless it is in their ability to do so or if you discard a UNIQUE ALLY card from your hand to heal the same UNIQUE ally in play (like healing UNIQUE Companions). Only specific Allies with the ability to heal in their CARD TEXT can do so. Elrond, Lord of Rivendell CAN heal at FELLOWSHIP Site 3 and can use his special abilities only at THIS Site.

We will upgrade the sound system and enhance acoustics in the Chapel and provide sound and video capability for the Assembly Room. The former Learning Center space will be converted to a Music Center for our growing choirs of all ages. In addition, our choir rehearsal space will be the location for our participation in a multi-church downtown Music Academy. The Central Music Academy (CMA) is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that was chartered in 2004 by Central Christian Church.

To offset some of the heat generated by the 13,000 lights used on the tree, the Sanctuary is made cooler than normal during the presentations. Please dress warmly!

SHAS is funded primarily by the donations of members and well wishers. Donations to SHAS are tax-deductible. A financial statement is available upon request. Since SHAS receives no city, state or federal funding we rely solely on charitable donations, fundraisers and the good will of people who love animals and want to help. Your support is crucial for us to continue our mission for years to come.

Farm Sanctuary is the nation’s leading farm animal protection organization. Since incorporating in 1986, we have worked to expose and stop cruel practices of the “food animal” industry through research and investigations, legal and legislative actions, public awareness projects, youth education, and direct rescue and refuge efforts.

The objective of our Safe Sanctuary policy is to ensure a safe, secure Christian atmosphere for all children and students during Covenant-sponsored events and worship services. More information and a copy of our policy can be found here.

It is a lot tougher than it seems. Many people are under the erroneous assumption that they can build a sanctuary and the public will support it. Read How We Got Started to see what we did and perhaps learn from our trials and errors.

The lorikeets that feed at the sanctuary are wild birds, therefore we have no control over their numbers. The birds prefer to feed from natural sources rather than come to CWS during warmer weather, when there are many native trees in full bloom. Our aim is to provide a supplement to their diet, we do not replace it all.

No-kill" means that animals are not destroyed except in cases of terminal and painful illness, when compassion demands euthanasia because there is no reasonable alternative.

In September 1990, Brevard's citizens voted to tax themselves for the purchase of environmentally sensitive lands. They approved a referendum authorizing the county to issue up to $55 million in bonds to "finance the cost of acquiring, protecting, and maintaining environmentally endangered lands, and making improvements as appropriative for passive recreation and environmental education…" The bonds are paid for by a .

The mission of the EEL Program is to protect and preserve biological diversity through responsible stewardship of Brevard County's natural resources. The EEL Program acquires, protects, and maintains environmentally endangered lands guided by science and the best available practices for land management. The EEL Program provides passive recreation and environmental education opportunities to Brevard's citizens and visitors without taking away from the conservation goals of the program.

The EEL Program's Selection & Management Committee identified three Sanctuary Categories. Each EEL sanctuary is assigned a Category of 1, 2 or 3, based on that site's conservation goals and public access needs. The types of activities to be offered at each sanctuary are determined by the assigned Category. A Category 1 ranking has the most options for public access, while a Category 3 has the least.

The Sanctuary renovations include the complete refurbishment and enhancement of our 107-year old organ; plaster ceiling repair; replacement of the 25-year-old heating and air conditioning system; expand chancel area to provide more flexibility for worship; upgrade the sound system, augment lighting and enhance acoustics; expansion of the choir loft to provide flexible seating for 40+ choir members.

During the time the Sanctuary is closed for worship--roughly mid-February 2006 until March 1, 2007--we will worship in our chapel. We will expand to multiple worship services on Sunday mornings to accommodate our membership. Many congregations are forced to find a movie theater or office space for worship when their primary space is shut down. Through the faithful stewardship of those that preceded us, First Church can avoid this dislocation and stay in our own space.

The Environmentally Endangered Lands (EEL) Program is dedicated to conservation through land acquisition and management. Brevard County's Parks & Recreation Department manages and assists the program. The EEL Program protects Brevard County's unique natural habitats, while managing them for their rare, threatened, endangered, or endemic plants and animals. Three directives guide the EEL Program.

The EEL Program is a 'willing-seller' program, which means it can only purchase property from people who want to sell their land. The EEL Program does not control or restrict private land rights, or condemn land. Most of the land the EEL Program has in conservation was purchased in partnership with the State of Florida.

Buying lands for conservation requires a pledge to long-term land management. For centuries, natural cycles of fire, water flow, and weather shaped the habitats we see today. Now roads, development, and other human disturbances have fragmented the landscape. These natural cycles can no longer happen on their own, and it is up to land managers to re-create them to preserve our unique species and habitats.

The EEL Program's goal is to create an inspiring environmental education program. This will be done through partnerships with the school system, local organizations, and citizen volunteers. Trailhead kiosks (information panels), illustrative trail signs, guided tours, and four regional Management & Education Centers are being created to help meet this goal. The EEL Program's environmental education goals are outlined in its Environmental Education Manual.

Success in reaching the goals of the EEL Program requires not only concerned and involved citizens, but also professional staff who are trained in land management, public relations and environmental education. In addition, staff members develop and apply management plans to EEL Sanctuaries, and apply for grants to aid in conservation efforts. Under Florida law, e-mail addresses are public records.

When a mountain lion is declared a public safety threat, the DFG’s goal is to eliminate the threat in the most humane manner possible. Capturing a wild animal that is accustomed to traveling great distances and confining it to a relatively small enclosure is not a humane option.

The NMS was created by Congress via the enactment of the Marine Protection, Research and Sanctuaries Act (MPRSA) of 1972. It provides for the protection of the nation’s unique marine resources via designation of the sites that contain these resources as sanctuaries. Florida’s original sanctuaries were designated at Key Largo in 1976, and Looe Key in 1981.

How I wish it were so, but alas, Sanctuary, like the characters, only exists in my mind. Believe me, if it were real, I'd be a live in patron :)
