Why is noise coming from my fluorescent lamp?
FAQs: Fluorescent: GE Commercial Lighting ProductsAudible noise from a fluorescent light is likely due to a loose or faulty ballast. The ballast is an electrical device inside the lighting fixture that supplies the proper starting and operating power to the lamp. Sometimes, changing a lamp loosens the ballast mounting or other parts of the fixture and the slight vibration from the ballast during normal operation causes a buzzing or hum. The volume of the sound may change - louder or softer - as the fixture warms up.
Related QuestionsWhat is a fluorescent lamp?
Light Corporation FAQ: questions & answers about fluorescent...A high efficiency lamp utilizing an electric discharge through low pressure mercury vapor to produce ultra-violet (UV) energy. The UV excites phosphor materials applied as a thin layer on the inside of a glass tube which makes up the structure of the lamp. The phosphors transform the UV to visible lights.

Welcome to Weber.comRushing noise: Immediately after turning on the gas tank valve, you may hear a "rushing" noise. This is just gas rushing into the supply hose and manifold. Groaning or metallic cracking and popping: As Flavorizer Bars, burner tubes, and cooking grates heat and cool, they expand and contract, causing these sounds. Fluttering noise: If the slide-out bottom tray is not fully pushed into place, excess air may be drawn into the cookbox, causing a "fluttering" sound.
Related QuestionsWhat's the difference between a compact fluorescent lamp and a linear fluorescent lamp?
Litetronics International - Frequently Asked QuestionsThe primary difference is in size and application. Compact fluorescent bulbs are made in special shapes (which require special technologies) to fit in standard household light sockets, like table lamps and ceiling fixtures. In addition, most compact fluorescent lamps have integral ballast that is built into the base of the light bulb, whereas linear fluorescent tubes require a separate ballast independent of the bulb. Both types offer energy-efficient light.
Related QuestionsCan I use a compact fluorescent light bulb on my 3-way lamp?
GE Consumer & Industrial Lighting: Ask Us: FAQs - Compact Fl...GE does make CFL bulbs for use in 3-way lamps. Check the package for this application. If a regular CFL is use in a 3-way switch, it will work on the middle (medium) setting and it should not damage the bulb. The 3-way switch does not alter the performance of the bulb.
Related QuestionsHow much heat is radiated from a fluorescent lamp?
FAQs: Fluorescent: GE Commercial Lighting ProductsAbout 90% of all energy emitted by tungsten filaments (including those in halogen lamps) is infrared, or radiant heat. The way to decrease heat from your fixtures is to use lower wattage lamps, or to use compact fluorescent bulbs. The common types and colors of fluorescent lamps radiate an estimated 30% of their energy in the infrared range -"principally far infrared (wavelengths beyond 5000 nm)".
Related QuestionsWhat is a fluorescent lamp ballast and what does it do?
Light Corporation FAQ: questions & answers about fluorescent...A fluorescent lamp ballast is an electrical transformer. Fluorescent lamps require different voltages at different places in the lamp in a standard rapid start system. There are small filaments at the end of the lamp that require low voltage (approx. 4 volts) to aid in starting the lamp, this is called cathode voltage. The lamp also requires a higher voltage (200 volts or higher depending on lamp type) from end to end on the lamp to operate, this is called arc voltage.
Related QuestionsWhat's the white powder I see inside my fluorescent lamp?
Litetronics International - Frequently Asked QuestionsThe white powder that you see inside a fluorescent lamp is called phosphor, which is a substance that emits visible light whenever it absorbs ultra violet energy waves. The phosphor used in all fluorescent lamps is what determines both the color and the CRI.
Related QuestionsCan I use a compact fluorescent lamp with a dimmer switch?
Litetronics International - Frequently Asked Questionsthe present time, Litetronics does not offer a standard compact fluorescent lamp that is dimmable. However, our Micro-Brite line of cold cathode fluorescent lamps features several dimmable models.
Related QuestionsWhat does the numbering on a fluorescent lamp mean?
Light Corporation FAQ: questions & answers about fluorescent...Most standard lamps are designated in the following format F32T8 35K. The F meaning that the lamp is fluorescent, the 32 is the lamp wattage, the T designates the shape of the lamp (T = tubular), the 8 is the diameter of the lamp in 1/8 of an inch. A T8 lamp has an 8/8 diameter or one inch diameter. A T12 lamp has a 12/8 diameter or 1-1/2 inches. The last designation is the color of the light the lamp emits in this case 3500 degrees Kelvin.
Related QuestionsCan I be shocked by the inverter or the fluorescent lamp?
Specialty Fluorescent LightingYes! Although current is low, the inverter output can exceed 1000 volts. Proper precautions should be observed when operating these lamps. The lamp/inverter combine to produce some RF emission. It may be necessary to shield the inverter after determining the results of system testing. Related QuestionsWhy is there is a humming or buzzing noise coming from my subwoofer?
HSU FAQ - Frequently Asked QuestionsYou have a ground loop problem. Try using a cheater plug that removes the third prong, also called the 'ground'. Do NOT ground the grounding tab on the cheater plug! That would defeat the purpose of the cheater plug for this application. You have an amplifier problem. If the ground cheater plug does not help, disconnect all interconnects from the subwoofer amplifier. If still hums, call or email technical support. You have a problem with other equipment.
Related QuestionsWill a compact fluorescent lamp flicker or appear dim when I first turn it on?
Litetronics International - Frequently Asked QuestionsDue to technological advances, there is now no significant flicker for Litetronics CFLs (less than 1 second). However, these bulbs do require a short warm-up period before they reach full brightness, which is why they may appear dim when first turned on. Compact fluorescent lamps are best used in fixtures that are left on for longer periods of time, rather than in fixtures that are turned off and on frequently.
Related QuestionsHow does a fluorescent lamp work?
Frequently Asked Questions About LEDs and Prudent LivingA fluorescent lamp?or tube is a gas-discharge lamp that uses electricity to excite mercury vapor in argon or neon gas, resulting in a plasma that produces short-wave ultraviolet light.?This light then causes a phospor coating the inside of the tube to fluoresce, producing visible light. Present-day fluorescent tubes do not operate on regular AC or DC electricity -- they require that a "ballast" control the current flow and provide the startup and operating electrical power to the tubes.
Related QuestionsWhat's that squeaking noise coming from the dashboard?
_7It most likely is the dashboard. As your driving over bumps, press on it and see if the noise stops. If so, your best bet is take it to the dealer to be fixed. Related QuestionsWhy is Luxeon more energy saving compare to incandescent Bulb or Fluorescent Lamp?
luxeon, super bright LED, luxeon bulb, led bulbs, LEDs lamp,...Incandescent Bulb or Filament Bulb as its normally known was invented by Thomas Edison. It's not energy efficient. For example, 100 Watt of energy. You put it into a normal Incandescent Bulb or Filament Bulb. Out of that 100 Watt of energy you put into the bulb, 80% (or 80 Watt) is used to heat up the tungsten filament and 20% (or 20 Watt) is used to produce the light. This means only 20% is used to produce light and 80% wasted as heat.
