Postgraduate students may select modules at a level of 3 or below (undergraduate) but only up to an established threshold for the programme, as detailed below (taken from General Regulation 3.2): a minimum of 90 ECTS credits, with at least 70 ECTS credits at level 4 or above and a minimum of 90 ECTS credits of original research activity

Graduate students and unaffiliated researchers may be included on applications. Graduate students should not be included as PI, Co-PI, or senior personnel. Unaffiliated researchers need to go through an eligible institution to be involved in these competitions. (See the answer to the previous question). individual may apply only once as principal investigator (PI) through each funding opportunity.

International students are encouraged to explore other sources of funding, such as the Institute of International Education (Fulbright Scholarships), American Association of University Women, Rotary International, NAFSA, AMIDEAST (Middle East), and government-sponsored scholarships and loans. Please check SIT’s Financial Aid website for further information. Advance planning is essential.

Yes, every fulltime student in our Program receives a stipend and tuition remission. Extra financial assistance is available through fellowships, grants, assistantships, traineeships, loans, and Federal Work-Study Program assignments. Please visit the Graduate Center’s financial aid website for information about fellowships and stipends.

Students admitted into the program are provided with Veterinary School and Graduate School tuition and fees, student health insurance, and a graduate level stipend.

National funding competitions are an excellent source of funding for non-UK students, and you are VERY STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to apply to any such schemes for which you are eligible. (Research Council scholarships are the main corresponding scheme for UK students.) Often the success rate is greater than for any source of funding we can provide, and in some cases stipend levels are more generous.

Qualified full-time Ph.D. students are guaranteed a minimum funding package of $17,000 per year for four years. This covers the cost of domestic tuition and includes ten hours per week in a Teaching Assistantship OR Research Assistantship from September 1 to April 30 each year.

Almost all students admitted to a Ph.D. program in Arts and Sciences are supported by a multi-year fellowship. This includes tuition, health insurance and an annual stipend. The fellowships usually require a certain amount of teaching or other responsibilitie. Other schools affiliated with Columbia have different funding availability and students need to contact the school(s) directly for details. Free-Standing Master's programs at Columbia are not funded.

There are a variety of awards for MD/PhD students. These are primarily to support students in the research phase of the program, and for the final two years of medicine. They vary in duration and amount, and are awarded on a competitive basis and/or on demonstrated need.

The University Office of Sponsored Research disseminates information on external support for research, training, and scholarly activity to the academic community. The Office has access to summaries of research interests of federal agencies, private foundations and health organizations. Application forms and guideline materials are also available.

The Music Engineering (MUE) Graduate program does not have your "conventional" research-for-funding that other engineering graduate schools might have. This is mostly because we want your thesis and research to be completely up to you, and not dictated by some company that is funding you. However, if you have a company in mind that would be willing to support your original thesis ideas, this situation would be considered. However, it is not the norm.

The Internet is the best place to turn for information on grants and fellowships. See the Links Page for URLs to an international database of funding opportunities; databases and several websites containing nation-wide listings of fellowships, grants, and jobs in the humanities; and links to websites for some of the larger humanities granting agencies.

Unlike some programs that continuously accept applications from technology developers, I&I only accepts applications once or twice a year. Only applications responding to an open announcement will be accepted by I&I. Note that, at present, I&I has no funding for its activities in fiscal year 2008, so it has announced no upcoming funding opportunity solicitations.

Incoming Ph.D. students may be offered a scholarship package valued at $34,850 for the 2003/2004 academic year. This package includes a full waiver of tuition ($12,600), a stipend of $20,000 per year, hospitalization and medical insurance (annual premium of $2,050 paid by the Graduate School), and a waiver of the Student Health Services fee ($200 annually). This offer is based on merit. Only students who plan to pursue the Ph.D. degree on a full time basis are eligible for these scholarships.

In the second and third year of the Global Curriculum Project grant there may be some fundingavailable for a minimum of two secondary-aged students from each school to travel.

Since October 2003, NIH lists all its opportunities in Grants.gov as funding opportunity announcements (FOA). Grants.gov posts FOAs from virtually the entire federal government. Therefore, you can find funding opportunities that require a paper PHS 398 in Grants.gov. In those cases, the FOA simply points to the NIH Guide announcement.

Funding opportunities are available from US universities for international students, but you should note that full funding is rare unless you have academic, athletic or artistic talent. Your best alternative is to approach the university you plan to attend for potential scholarship options. This should be done prior to actually submitting your application, as then you will know what scholarships you might be eligible for. Another option would be searching for external sources of funding.
