The bus to Quetzaltenango (more commonly called Xela) costs Q45 and takes about 4.5 hours, then take another taxi to our school (Q30 max.).

Since the beginning of Casa Xelaju in 1988 we have not have any instances concerning the security of our students who have taken the bus. More than 7,500 ex-students have taken the bus from Guatemala to Quetzaltenango and viceversa.

The easiest way to get here is to give us your flight information on the registration form and we'll send you our driver to pick you up and take you directly to Antigua. Please refer to our price list for the current price of the airport pickup service. Other options would be to take a taxi or minibus from the airport to Antigua. Finally, you could also take a public bus, but that's definitely not for the faint of heart, especially if you carry a lot of luggage or arrive after dark.

The closest airport is La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City, which is about 45 km (30 miles) from Antigua. Please resist the temptation to book a flight to Antigua Bird International Airport — that one is located on the island of Antigua in the Caribbean, southeast of Puerto Rico.

If you are arriving at the airport with the intention to come directly over to our Rio Dulce site, it depends on the time that you arrive. The bus ride from Guatemala City to Rio Dulce takes about 6 hours, so if you arrive late, you better sleep in Guatemala City for 1 night and take the bus the next day. Unless somebody is meeting you at the airport, you'll have three choices: bus, train (in Palermo), taxi or rental car. The Palermo airport is about a thirty minute drive from the city; the Catania airport is about twenty minutes from Catania. Buses depart about every thirty minutes until around 10:00 PM, and are less frequent after that hour. Departures from Catania airport are less frequent generally, but there's usually a departure every forty-five or sixty minutes during the day.

Bring shorts, t-shirts, pants, long sleeve shirts, a light jacket (water resistant for the rain), sandals, walking shoes.

The bus trip takes approximately four hours on a "Pullman" bus, which are the 1st class buses. These buses are comfortable but they do not come equiped with bathrooms. It is wise to go before you leave the station. If you have to go during the trip the driver will stop but you have to tell him. We recommend you take the Galgos bus be! cause there station in Xela is only a short taxi ride or a 10minute walk from the school.

Most people generally fly into Naples, which is about 40 minutes from our facilities. You may also fly into Rome to suit your travel schedule -- in which case you must transfer to the downtown train station and take a train (a 3 or 4 hour trip) to Salerno, a small city which is approx. 10 minutes away, where you can arrive from by taxi or public bus.

From the airport it is possible to go by bus or taxi to the center of the city. Also the school offers an airport transfer for 30 €.
