Yes. While Cinema Products markets only the EFP and SK (and JR) with a video emphasis, all Steadicams should work well with your video camcorder if it weighs enough. Even when flying film cameras, all Steadicams use a video reference, usually provided with a video tap or assist. A simple video out from the camcorder will work wonderfully. The biggest problem associated with using the Steadicam to shoot video is not the camera but the cables.

The JR does provide similar camera isolation to the larger rigs. It has a three-axis gimbal to reduce rotary jarring; it spreads the weight of the rig to increase stability; however, instead of the Articulated Arm, the JR uses the more sophisticated but less predictable Human Arm. OFVM run two main introductory production evening courses: Shooting Video and Experimental Film and Video. On both courses you learn how to make films by actually making one, but they each have a different approach. Shooting Video is our main digital video production course (we also run an intensive version called Shooting Break), it concentrates on making a narrative based digital video production (i.e. a drama or a documentary).

This is a question that you must compare "apples to apples" with. People often say, "digital is better," which is usually true. However, a professional, high-end Analog (meaning "non-digital) camera will definitely have a better picture quality than a consumer grade digital camera someone can find at a Best Buy. Typically shooting on digital is preferable, but not always better. Always be sure to compare apples to apples when you are comparing equipment.

The main differences regarding video shooting contra film shooting is obviously the cheaper costs of video... however watch for long hours and sound synching when shooting hours of raw material. In the case of Festen - The Celebration, the work machine was extraordinarily lightweight... hence generally more production value.

It will not matter to the sync sound recorder whether you shoot at 24 or 30fps for video transfer. The crystal oscillator will remain at 60hz either way. If you are shooting at 30fps and will have your film transferred to video on a Rank scanner it will be transferred at 29.97fps. Therefore, to maintain the correct sync relationship, the field audio cassettes must be transferred against a master clock frequency of 59.94hz.

Generally, each day after the completion of the shoot, the production audio rolls will be sent to an audio post house for transfer to "dailies" form. If the film is being edited filmstyle, using 35mm mag audio and film dupes (as opposed to electronically, using an Avid or Lightworks edit system), the production select takes will be transferred to 35mm mag film.
