Poison oak grows from sea level to 5,000 feet of elevation. Characterized by alternate leaves with three or occasionally five veined, shiny leaflets, poison oak thrives throughout California. The rash starts with itchiness and swelling, followed by a reddish inflammation of tiny pimples. Blisters form and couple in a chain-like reaction, and a clear fluid oozes from the blisters. What is Poison Oak? Poison Oak can be a bush, vine, root, tree, whatever. My theory is that it is sentient and has a collective, malevolent, intelligence. I also believe it is capable of reaching out and grabbing one's ankles when hiking on a trail. The name poison oak is often applied to the shrub-like forms of poison ivy and to at least two similar plants that are usually considered separate species of the cashew family, Anacardiaceae.

Tecnu Extreme gets to the root of the problem by first working to remove the rash causing toxin urushiol from the skin. Even after the urushiol has attached itself to the skin, Tecnu Extreme can remove it. If a person removes the urushiol in time, the rash can actually be avoided. No. Rubbing a rash won't spread it to other parts of your body or to another person. The only way to spread it is if the plant's rash-causing oil, urushiol, is on hands or clothing. Always rinse skin thoroughly with plain, cool water and wash clothing and garden tools with hot, soapy water. And don't forget to wash Fluffy or Fido's fur, too, since pet fur can be a means of indirect contact with the irritant. It's best to contact your veterinarian about any specific concerns.
