The antenna can be mounted in several different locations. The roof, the trunk or my personal favorite, inside on the rear parcel shelf. Mounting the antenna inside will cut down on your reception, but until smaller antennas come out, this is a good alternative. The Thuraya satellite phone user terminal operates on a dual frequency of GSM 900 MHz and satellite at a 1.6/1.5 GHz range and therefore requires additional hardware for such dual band operations. The Thuraya satellite phone uses a Quadrifilar helical L-band antenna consisting of helices wound on a cylinder, which give it a larger in size compared to normal GSM antennas.

Answer: Each of the A-train missions is responsible for controlling its satellite with a mission control center. CloudSat uses an Air Force control facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico. However, there is a central information exchange center, called the Earth Science Mission Operations office, at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland that acts as a clearing-house for all A-Train coordination and information exchange.

Trees can cause interference with the satellite signal. If you cannot find a different location that provides a clear line of sight with the satellite, you may have to trim your trees. To enable the user to transmit low power using Thuraya's handheld satellite phone terminal, the spacecraft will require high sensitivity or high G/T to receive the signal. A satellite receiving antenna may not be erected in a residential district unless it is accessory to a residential or institutional use and it is located in a rear yard. A satellite receiving antenna may be erected after the issuance of a building permit provided the following conditions are met: The antenna shall be permanently secured to the ground. Answer: Satellites in low earth orbit, like CloudSat, are affected by drag which slowly causes the orbit to decay. Thus, after 20 to 30 years, CloudSat's orbit altitude will be reduced to a point where the satellite will re-enter the dense part of the earth's atmosphere and burn up.

Answer: Commands for the satellite are built on computers. These commands are sent to the satellite using large antennas on the ground, similar to the ones in Canberra, Australia. The satellite receives the commands, executes them, and sends answers (called telemetry) back to the same antennas on the ground. The answers are read on computers by the scientists.
