The Social Security Administration defines disability as the inability to engage in substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months. Even if you have not been disabled for 12 consecutive months you may apply for benefits. There is no waiting period, you can apply for benefits as soon as you are no longer able to engage in substantial employment.

Medical emergency” means any condition, which, on the basis of the physician’s good faith clinical judgment, so complicates the medical condition of a pregnant female as to necessitate the immediate abortion of her pregnancy to avert her death or for which a delay will create serious risk of substantial or irreversible impairment of a major bodily function. Unborn child” or “fetus” means a member of the species homo sapiens from fertilization until birth. See O.C.G.A. § 31-9A-2

Long Term Acute Care is defined as hospital care that is provided to patients that meet acute care criteria. Their hospitalization generally requires greater than 25 days.

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is financed with Social Security taxes paid by workers, employers, and self-employed persons.
