Following on from the success of the Google Summer of Code program, Google is holding a contest for pre-university students (e.g., high school and secondary school students) with the aim of encouraging young people to participate in open source. We will work with ten open source organizations for this pilot effort, each of whom will provide a list of tasks to be completed by student contestants.

Not as far as anyone can tell. They did not officially even acknowledge the existence of the contest, though the contest organizers reported several hits on their website originated from users within Google's IP range. There can be no doubt Google was aware of it. Hopefully, they will study the techniques used by the participants and use the information to improve Google's resistence to SEO attacks.

Competition among search engine optimizing firms is fierce and can get ugly where many unethical search engine optimizers will attempt to sabotage their competitors (and their clients!). You've probably seen or heard of bidding wars on Google or Overture. The only winners there are the search engine company's profit margins. We emphasize "natural placement" on search engines, so that if your pay-per-click budget is out, you maintain a competitive holding pattern.

Everyone needs to use the same tools in order for judging to be fair across the board. We encourage projects to link over to their own infrastructure where appropriate, to allow maximum student participation within the respective communities. Also, using Google's infrastructure makes our lawyers happy, and we want them to be happy because they make it possible for us to do exciting things like this contest.

The Unisong International Song Contest is open to songwriters in ALL countries. As we've been around since 1997, proudly being the 1st truly International song contest, our roots run deep in the international arena, through our past Grand Prizes and global friends and contacts. So we not only accept entries from around the world, we highly encourage them.

The awards are for standards-based curriculum. There are no science standards for preschool curriculum. The contest is for kindergarten through 12th grade teachers. For details about eligibility, please see the Official Rules for each program.

In our opinion a highly interactive application should require (see the general indications in the guidelines) "an independent navigation system and imply an intense interactivity with the user, who will frequently make use of the mouse or the keyboard in order to get different types of response from the program." On the other hand, the highly interactive application implies no "challenge" and does not aim at amusing only.

Except for: employees of Black River Publishing, it's related companies, and the judges and their immediate family are not eligible to compete in this contest.

Any public, private or parochial school that teaches any combination of grades K-12 located in the Eligible Regions is eligible. The school must have tax exempt status and must be non-discriminatory in its charter or objectives and in the treatment of its staff or constituents.

The writing contest is open to anyone, anywhere. You do not need to be attending the Conference to submit your work.

Accessible Search is a natural and important extension of Google's overall mission to better organize the world's information and make it universally accessible. Google Accessible Search is designed to help the visually impaired find the most relevant, useful and comprehensive information, as quickly as possible. In the past, visually impaired Google users have often waded through a lot of inaccessible websites and pages to find the required information.
