Lars took the name from a friend named Ron Quintana who came up with the name during a discussion for a fanzine he was creating. Lars quickly suggested another name for Ron and kept "Metallica" for himself.

Someone wrote Silver Chair instead of Sliver Chair, and that's how silverchair popped up.

Hemingway took "For Whom The Bell Tolls" from "Meditation 17" of John Donne's (1572-1631) work Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions. The tolling of the bell refers to the act of ringing a bell (the death knell) at a funeral to indicate that someone has died. Hemingway is drawing a parallel between the death of one person and the consequent affect on everyone, and the loss of Spain to the fascists in the Spanish Civil War.

The Surfriders Foundation is an organization that seeks to protect the oceans and beaches around the world for everyone to enjoy. Many alternative bands were asked to contribute classic surf songs for the the Foundation's fundraising album MOM (Music of Our Mother ocean). silverchair accepted the opportunity to contribute along with Everclear, their touring buds. Since all of them surf and come from an industrial beach city (Newcastle), they felt close to the cause.

The name "Dejal" is pronouced "DEE-JILL". It is not a French word, so should not be pronounced as "DAY-ZHAL" or other variations. The name originated from the former initials of the founder of the company, David Sinclair. He used to be David J. Lambert, but both he and his wife changed their surnames to "Sinclair" when they got married, being people who like to make their own conventions.

That is a very good question. Cascade Quilting is based in Salem, Oregon. Salem is in the Northern part of the Willamette Valley, which lies at the foot of the Cascade mountain range. Hence the name "Cascade Quilting".

When first starting out, Bob Chandler was always breaking axles & engine parts. One day he asked a friend what he thought the problem was. Ron Magruder responded with "it's because of your big foot"! Eventually that name made onto the door of the original truck, in small letters just below the window.

After Dick and Denny decided to form a racing team, they were struggling to come up with a name. They found the name "Widget" on an advertisement on an airplane. Sorry, you are just another victim of an elaborate Widget joke. After Dick and Denny came up with the name, they made Widget decals to put on their cars.
