Most likely not. Average pellet stoves with a standard burn pot are not designed to cope with high ash content. In general, corn stoves will have more potential to handle grass pellets because they are designed to deal with a somewhat messy residue. This is no guarantee that corn stoves will burn grass, corn stoves sometimes have difficulty dealing with corn.

Not yet. The major advantage of boilers over stoves is that they provide hot water and central hot water heating. Commercially available pellet boilers are designed to burn wood pellets and possibly corn pellets. They have no means of dealing with high ash content. They can successfully burn grass pellets, but will generate a large clinker that would need to be removed from the burn chamber every 6 hours or so, in order for the boiler to continue functioning.

At the current time, the Harman corn stove appears capable of handling grass pellets at least up to 5.2% ash content, without any modifications to the stove.

No. Since the pellets are so efficient, the stoves do not need a chimney. All you need to do is vent them outdoors with a 4” pipe through an outside wall. So, choose the room you congregate in, place the stove in that room, and enjoy the ease and warmth of pellet heat! On average, one 40 lb. bag of wood pellets will heat a 1,500 sq. ft. home for one or two days—depending on whether the pellets are your primary or secondary heating source. No. You can use BBQ pellets in any type of outdoor BBQ. If you are using a gas or charcoal grill, take a handful of BBQ pellets and wrap them in aluminum foil. Poke a small hole in the foil with a pen tip and set the pellets on the coals or on the lower grate of your grill. The heat from your grill will cause the pellets to smoke, flavoring your meal.

Pellets that are too long can bridge or block the feeding mechanism. Our pellets are screened to remove long pellets as well as short pellets and fines. The pellets we sell are generally between 3/8 and 3/4 inch in length. Pellets that are too hard may jam the feeding mechanism.

As of now, we do not have any economic comparisons of cool-season grass pellet systems with fossil fuels. REAP-Canada has made some comparisons of switchgrass with fossil fuels and estimated that switchgrass may be economically superior to all but natural gas.
